Jominac, Chapter 6—Mole

Written by Dronin Gammerson
I glared at Kilimor, “I thought you said that you posted guards at all of the possible places!”   “I did,” Kilimor said, “Where did they attack?”   “They attacked an old warehouse containing Bolgolium oil,” The messenger said.   “What is Bolgolium oil?” Kilimor said.   I glanced at him, “Glue for metal.”   “Is it valuable?” Kilimor asked.   “No not very, Bogolium plant is not hard to get. It grows on the surface in large quantities. That is why it is not dirt cheep, but other than that it is relatively easy to make,” I said.   “Why would they steal that?”   “I don't know maybe they needed it. After all they did steal a bunch of metal earlier.”   “While you were asleep we got word that and unidentified person sold forty ingots of compressed iron to a man who asks no questions.” Kilimor said.   “Oh...” I said, “Well I guess that rules out them building something. In that case why did they steal the oil?”   “I don't know but you should probably find out.” Kilimor said and walked away.   “Hmph,” I walked away as well.   I decided to run all of this by Rodrick and see what he thought about the  theft. Along the way I thought about possible reasons they would have attacked the warehouse holding inexpensive things rather than a warehouse holding very expensive things. The only difference other than what was inside was that the others were guarded on the inside while this one was not.   “Maybe we have a mole,” I almost stopped in the middle of the road. I finished the last few steps to Rodrick's door in a rush, and knocked on his door a little too harshly.   “What!” Rodrick flung the door open, “Oh it's you Jominac.”   “I think I found something,” I said.   I explained everything that happened at the warehouse and my observations.   “This is serious,” Rodrick said, “I think you're right.”   “You think so?” I replied, “'cause I rather hoped you didn't.”   “But uh a mole is like a spy right?” Rodrick said uncertainly.   “Yes!” I said, “Of course.”   We walked over to my house.   “Okay so now we need to find the mole,” I said.   “Well first we need to find out if there really is a mole and then find him,” Rodrick said.   I took off my armor so that I was then in my regular everyday clothes.   “Actually we might be able to use the mole to our advantage,” I said.   “Oh and how's that?”   “Simple, we tell everyone except Kilimor that we are guarding every  place except one and we are actually guarding that place.”   “That might work.”   “Hey. I haven't gotten a message from Dronin yet. There has certainly been enough time for him to send one,” I said with a worried expression.   “I'm sure it will turn up soon,” Rodrick said. Although, I knew he didn't believe it himself.   “Yeah sure,” I said, “We should tell Kilimor.”   Rodrick nodded and walked away knowing that when I said we I really meant me. I headed to Kilimor, asking directions along the way.   “Kilimor!” I hollared from a distance, “I found something out.”   “Oh and what did you find out?” He said.   “We have a mole and I know how to find out who he is.” One of the guards glanced at us and walked away quickening his pace.
