Personal history

Dr. Barney Beakerson was born in Porame, the capitol city of Vachelous, to his parents David and Ruth. Barney was a rather shy and awkward kind of kid, who always seemed to cause more problems wherever he went and really didn’t have any friends, but dreamed of becoming a doctor so he could help others.   When he was old enough to go to school, Barney did his best to try and fit in and get people to like him, but consistently failed to do so, resulting on him being constantly bullied at school. The bullying would soon get to be so bad, that Barney was nearing quitting school altogether, despite the continual encouragement from his sister and parents. Before he could, however, Barney met a young boy who stood up to the bullies and defended him. The boys name was Ananias and they quickly became fast friends with Ananias helping Barney get his grades higher. Barney would also become friends with Ananias’s twin sister, Elisha, who gifted Barney with a pet goldfish that he would fondly refer to as Mr. Goldfins.   Barney and Ananias would soon graduate and make plans to attend the University of Porame together. It was during this time that Barney’s dear friend would disappear from Vachelous, causing Barney to lose his confidence in himself when he went off to the University of Porame alone. He would last about a year before being dropped out, due to what many believed to be rather odd behavior. Not wanting to give up on his dream of becoming a doctor, Barney would work hard to teach himself the trade and eventually made a name for himself in Vachelous as one of the best doctors around.   Ten years later, while Barney was working in his laboratory at home, an assassin broke in and tried to murder the doctor. To his great surprise, Barney recognized the assassin to be his friend, Ananias. He would learn that Ananias had been kidnapped, brainwashed and trained as a killer, but Barney managed to get through to his friend and help him remember who he was. Once Ananias memories were restored enough so he wouldn’t kill anybody, Barney would continue to help his friend to further regain his memories and help him start a new life for himself.   In 1700, Barney would hear of a quest, presented in a place called Middle March. Although Barney had never traveled outside of Vachelous before in his life, he decided to take a leap of faith and travel to Middle March on a quest of a lifetime, where he would face some new challenges and make some new friends.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Friends: Few   Enemies: Many, if bullies count
Guiscard: A fellow Vachelouing, Guicard was the first person Barney warmed up to despite the knight not being overly found of the doctor. Despite Guiscard's grumblings, Barney would always follow him around wherever he went and the knight would eventually see the bumbling doctors usefulness as a healer.   Kashi: One of Barney’s favorite members of the group, after the young Kokkan had successfully kept the rest of the team alive during his brief absence in Kelindor.   Sukoshi: Kashi’s brother, whom Barney has a liking for picking on, after he discovered him trying to hide from his sister in a tree. Sukoshi also happens to be one of the few who tries to point out that Barney’s antics will only get him into trouble, though the poor doctor remains rather clueless to Sukoshi’s words of wisdom.   Nichole: Although he didn’t know her to well, Barney was heartbroken at the death of the Nichole, partly blaming himself for not being able to heal her.   Maki: Between Barney and Maki, a lot can happen. Both being under the care of Ananias, the former assassin feels like he’s working with four year old’s when they get out of line. Barney certainly considers Maki to be one of his better friends, only wishing she’d keep clean more often.   Jade: If there was one “bug” that Barney could name that he liked, it would be Jade. He found her to be rather curious in her beliefs, but admired her spirit to continue on in the adventure despite her own doubts. He was devastated to learn she had perished while fighting Pale Warriors after the fall of Adventures Outpost.   Xkoll: Maki’s Viridian father figure, Barney met Xkoll when he and Ananias had been fighting each other in Glandoria. Barney quickly grew to like Xkoll, though he can’t understand why the Viridian gets so tense with him at times.   Acid Sugar: Barney isn’t sure what to make of his gun wielding, pink wearing, decked out in candy character. He likes her, as she’s proven herself on the battlefield, but finds her to be rather odd as well.   Dronin: Barney’s “arch nemesis” from Draldon. The two never really hit it off very well, and although Barney respects Dronin’s skill with a sword and helping out the team, the two have a love hate relationship that isn’t going away anytime soon.   Eragon: A soldier from Kelindor whom Barney became friends with from the start. He considers Eragon to be Dronin’s good side (if there ever was one) and has saved his life on more than one occasion.   Milo Burrows: Who doesn’t want to be friends with a halfling, especially one as kind and generous as Milo Burrows. Barney easily warmed up to Milo on day one and especially admired him for his courage in helping rescuing Guiscard and Sukoshi from the hands of the Sanctified.   Squire: It was rather easy for Barney to become friends with young knight in training. It helped she doesn’t talk much, but Barney’s fairly certain Squire considers him to be a friend as well.   Donindor: Three words describe the Guarian of Nahara for Barney. Old, grumpy and honorable. Nuff said.   Ananias Elendeer: Barney’s first and closest friend. Barney’ met Ananias when they were both very young while attending school. Barney was being picked on heavily by bullies and Ananias had stood up to them and protected him. Ever since the two have remained close even after Ananias had become an assassin for a time. It was certainly a friendship in the making as their great great grandparents, Elenthor and Dr. Mateo Beakerson, had also been close friends.   Elisha Elendeer: The twin sister of Ananias, Barney became friends with Elisha not long after meeting her brother. Elisha had even become good friends with Barney’s sister Jessica.   Jessica Beakerson: Barney’s older sister and almost closer friend other than Ananias. Jessica had always been there for Barney before he made any friends and always encouraged him to chase after his dreams to become a doctor, despite his bumbling personality or the fact he was dropped out of the University of Vachelous. Barney certainly couldn’t imagine the world without her.

Family Ties

Parents/Guardians: Father is David Beakerson. Mother is Ruth Beakerson   Siblings: One older sister, Jessica “Jessie” Beakerson   Close Relatives: His older sister Jessica, one of his few friends

Religion Name: Diematism   Beliefs about the Existence of God: Much of what his religious leaders indite him with, but has always kept an open mind on the matter.   Beliefs about the Character of God: That His love is for everyone   Beliefs about the Work of God: That He is the sole creator of all things

Author's Notes

Name Etymology:   An English or Jewish given name that derives from the Aramaic name meaning "son of Talmai". ... Talmai either comes from telem "furrow" or is a Hebrew version of Ptolemy or Filius. Thus Bartholomew is either "son of furrows" (i.e., rich in land) or "son of Ptolemy".
