Askaena
Astarum and the Scaled worship Askaena - a foreign god of nothingness.
Everything, that isn't anything else, is this way because of Askaena. It is impossible to see and know everything, and in the darkness, the fabric of our world writhes and changes. It's what makes anything exist, behave the way it does. You can think of Askaena as the spaces between words, the absence that carves out letters, small islands of meaning. Askaena is nowhere, and thus everywhere. Askaena is nothing, and thus defines everything. Askaena never exists, and thus is endless.
Our world exists as long as it is touched and seen. And when there's nothing to touch or see, there is nothing to touch or see. And thus, in the abyss, a forgotten, non-existent world would float, until something touches it.
Although many Astarum, especially in the coutryside, still pray to the old gods for day to day help, people of Astarion almost universally consider their god superior to the old ones, and members of the Court - savage idiots, for not recognising such simple truth. Since Astarion is theocratic, politics rely on religion, but aren't really changed by it, since Askaena is a vague deity, with little to no goals or desires.
Visit
Allegedly, Astarum were visited by the Deity and swore their loyalty to it. It blessed those, who followed it, and cursed those, who broke its laws. It created the mighty Astarion as it is now and left, promising to return. In truth, it doesn't matter if Askaena ever visited, it doesn't matter if Askaena ever existed.God of Nothingness
Askaena is a god of nothingness, of absence, of unseen and unknown, and therefore, a god of everything. It doesn't matter if Askaena exists, because its domain is non-existence. In way, Askaena can't exist, but its influence can be felt everywhere.Everything, that isn't anything else, is this way because of Askaena. It is impossible to see and know everything, and in the darkness, the fabric of our world writhes and changes. It's what makes anything exist, behave the way it does. Askaena is nothing, and thus defines everything. Askaena never exists, and thus is endless.
God of Possibilities
Askaena is all the possibilities of what you might see, when you turn on the lights. Askaena is all the possibilities of what you may touch in the unknown darkness. Before it is touched, before it is seen, it is non-existent. It is Askaena. And every time you look at it, it changes, ever so slightly. Because there is power in your vision, your touch, your attention. But you are never the only one, who looks, touches and thinks. Our world exists as long as it is touched and seen. And when there's nothing to touch or see, there is nothing to touch or see. And thus, in the abyss, a forgotten, non-existent world would float, until something touches it.
Will of the Dreamer
The wandering mind of Askaena may bless and curse at will, for we exist the way we do because of it. There are whispered words that it likes the sound of, hidden thoughts and and songs of silence. The Whisperers study them, talk with the void, and sometimes, in the absence of sound, they may find answers.Worship
Worship of Askaena is quite simple - prayers, sacrifices, and piety are thought to be rewarded by the Deity. Many artists and sculptors attempt to capture its form through absence - look at the image above as an example.Although many Astarum, especially in the coutryside, still pray to the old gods for day to day help, people of Astarion almost universally consider their god superior to the old ones, and members of the Court - savage idiots, for not recognising such simple truth.
