Corsicas Oscivoria

"May you never experience being a Mage and an Oscerillan at the same time..."

Title image by onlychasing-safety @ deviantart
It is said that when Oscerilla banned the use of open magic that those accused were shipped across Ascondia to live out their sentences as slave miners on the old Dragon Islands. Of course, no dragons live there now but the price on dragon bone, whether for weapon or ornament, fetch heavy prices across the known world. From time to time an ancient clutch of eggs is found petrified in the stone, long dormant of any potential threat, and the guards make sure to kill the ones who found them for they do not wish for even the smallest magical component to enter the hands of the slave mages.   In Oscerilla they use the bone dust in the manufacturing of armor and weapons, by mixing it with the flux and a bit of Iorite in the forging process it creates a dampening effect for all magical spells and abilities. This makes the penal colony of Corsica singlehandedly the most protected and important place in Oscerilla that doesn't exist within its borders. Over five thousand troops and guards make up the regiment that is rotated to and from the island chain.

Demographics

The prisoners are made up of all ethnicities that are capable of wielding arcane magic with the exception of those who are of elven descent. Oscerilla and the elves of Tirrafel do not share a warm history and Oscerilla has become hostile towards all pure or half blood elves, punishing their transgressions with execution. Often times this is for the very smallest of grievances or crimes, but the natural arcane skills of every elf causes tensions between the two races to run high.   The guards, soldiers and marines are all human descent   The Artisans that live and work are varied and tolerated due to the importance of their work and are forbidden to socialize with all but a handful of the prisoners.   Most nobles do not bother to travel here as they find they do not receive a warm or inviting environment.

Government

A governor is elected to the position and acts as both warden and mayor of the settlement. They speak for the government and are rotated out regularly to maintain the sense of separation between the empire and the prisoners.   A regiment of soldiers is maintained and run by the current Captain of the Guard, Karth Adrus. A man who is dedicated to the success of the project at hand and is said to really run the island.   *The governors is mostly a ceremonial position as the garrison commander runs most of the day to day operations within the colony itself. The Governor's role is to maintain face and make sure nobody looks too closely at what is going on here*

Defences

There are 6 Towers in total that ring the perimeter of the mines themselves, as well as multiple gates and walls in place around the prisoner detainment areas. The water itself has man-made and natural defenses in itself which deters anyone from swimming off the island. Smaller draconic descendants still inhabit small tribal villages and seldom run raiding parties into the settlements anymore, the Oscerillan government has made peace by supplying them with material to advance there armor and weapons.

Infrastructure

Several deep mines run into the 3 dormant volcanoes that are told once housed the Chroma Queen herself, Amatia. They are maintained by a guild of masons and carpenters.   The farmlands are rich and yield bountiful crops, most exist along the bases of the volcanoes Several forges exist to smelt the dust with Iorite Armorsmiths and Artisans work and experiment

Assets

Food and supplies to last 60 days of siege.   Dragon bone dust (Priceless)   Small exports of wheat and rice to local communities.

Architecture

Traditionally Oscerillan architecture consists of sharp edges and smooth sides, this prison colony is very minimalist. The prevention of escapees and infiltration is key to the success of maintaining control. The inner mining area is clear of obstruction from any sort of weaponry or defense, to ease the facilitation of equipment needed to mine dragonbone properly. The Dormant volcano situated in the center of the island offers a natural back wall to the main garrison.   Hardened Dragonstone, a mixture of dragonbone and obsidian infused into stone, makes up the majority of the garrison walls and the foundations of the defensive towers scattered in the waters. It has surprisingly slow erosion rates when used in water and is considered an unexpected side effect.

Geography

An ancient island that has since sunk below sea level making the once single island into a chain of three large islands with various smaller ones strewn about.   The main island, Iama, has a central volcano and lush foliage covering it. Aside from the mines and the grounds for defenses and settlements, the Oscerillans have left the natural land untouched. The fertile land is valuable and some of the best Horticulturalists have been tasked to finding a way to mimic the way volcanoes change the landscape and whether or not it has to do with the history of the island.
