Manabreakers

A gift granted by the divine.

Written by Rat_King

"Only the worthy shall be gifted of such power"

— Bassaden,Uthgar Bastmor. Dwarven Chronicler
A legendary state that bestows one great powers for as long as they could. Said to have come as a gift of the gods.

Transmission & Vectors

Although this condition is rare, a child or a descendant has a higher chance than the average person of inheriting or to receive the ability to manabreak if the parent or ancestor is a manabreaker.

Causes

If one has an immense amount of mana stored within he or she may have the capacity to manabreak, and the chance of having such a condition is extremely rare. Even still the individual may never be aware that he or she could manabreak since there are only a few sources for knowing the amount of mana within oneself.   Though there is a drink that could grant this state.....

Symptoms

Manabreaking is a state achieved by having mana overflowing within one's body. Manabreaking for the first time can be extremely painful, a surge of power flows through the body overwhelming the self and possibly fainting during the state. That is why the state is called manabreaking an overflowing essence of mana breaks down the body to the point of leaving one incapacitated for a short period of time. The pain will eventually be negated as time goes by through as the body becomes accustomed to the state of being.   How to identify a manabreaker; if a manabreaker enters the state a few physical alterations can be noticed and can be identified through one or more of these possible indicators:
  • Glowing eyes (present in all manabreakers)
  • Glowing cracks that appear within the skin.
  • A burning or smoking aura that surrounds the body.
  • A sudden change of hair color, possibly glowing as well
  • The hands may look ethereal or infernal depending on the power manifested in the manabreak
  • Strange runes or markings said to have come from the divine appear in the body.

Prognosis

Once a manabreaker enters the state, he/she will physically become stronger, faster, and durable than usual. On top of having an enhanced physical state, their senses are sharpened, meaning they could see an arrow coming from a mile away or hear silent footsteps lurking about.   The most significant effect that the manabreaking state will give are the powers that it grants to a person. Entering the state can grant the user a unique power. Either control over one or more of the elements, able to freely manipulate fire, water, air, and such without the restriction of chanting spells or being restricted to the type of spell. Or call upon a primal spirit to fight alongside the user boosting senses tenfold. Or even ones that are bizarre or extremely powerful such as powers related to temporal magic.   Do note that the user cannot be in the state of manabreaking permanently. Eventually, mana will deplete and would take about a day's rest or two to be able to return again. The user will be thoroughly exhausted once they choose to wholly deplete their mana in the state of manabreaking.

Prevention

Being mundane I guess......

Cultural Reception

Sovereigns of every realm will want to have a loyal manabreaker to fight for them, better yet if they were the manabreaker. Having a strong ally to fight for your side has been proven to be useful from time to time for they have been the ones who are capable of turning the tides in battles or easily winning it.   Generally, manabreakers are seen to be gifted by the gods but are still mortal and are tied to whatever laws hold them. They have been known to be turning points in history, changing the fates of everyone around them as they go about pursuing what was set for them.

Some examples of famous manabreakers:

Lo-Dann

A legend in dwarvish and human history, even revered as a saint in their religion. When he entered the state his eyes would glow gray as well as the cracks in his skin, strange primal markings would appear in his arms. During this state, he would be granted the power of anti-magic which was so powerful that he could silence an army of elven mancers. Slowly he would begin to understand the secrets of anti-magic and he would share it with his people.

Boro

A legendary Caprine beastman that carved his own kingdom through the power of his manabreak. Once he entered the state his eyes glow orange, an aura emits from his presence and an armored spirit fights alongside him wielding a great ax and could throw out magic missiles. He is infamous for overthrowing his own king and rule as a usurper of the Savan Katar. He would be challenged by another manabreaker for his transgressions.

Ramael

The Liberator of the Savan Katar, a Canid beastman that challenged and defeated Boro on behalf of his king. He entered a state similar to Boro where a spirit that wielded two spears fought alongside him emitting a yellow aura and his eyes glowed as such. He would defeat Boro in a legendary duel and hold Boro as a prisoner for the rest of his days.
