Shienunfesht (Shine-an-fesht)

The festival of Shienunfesht is a southern (lightfoot and stout) halfling festival celebrated every year on the summer solstice. It is a celebration that begins from the first light to the last moments before the sun dips beneath the horizon. It often involves plenty of drink, food and games, as many halfling festivals are known to have. It is also defined by a treat called bright biscuits, which are lemon cookies in the shape of sun with blueberries or raspberries baked in. Another staple of Shienunfesht is a day long auction and raffle. Anything from furniture to food to favors can be sold during these, and anyone can put up things to be sold.    It was originally celebrated only by the halflings of southern Chartin, but since the first voyages of 7,910 when the people of Chartin, Ullyodyr and Mylanthia, the tradition spread quickly, and variations of the holiday have taken root in elven, gnome and dwarven traditions, each with their own staples.   The elven version is more organized. Auctions are replaced with a temple open for offerings to the goddess Aerdrie Faenya. There is often a large feast at sundown as well rather than servings provided all day. The Dwarven version is the near opposite aside from offerings, but it's open to several deities rather than just one. There are also several drinking games, many of which are for prizes. The Dwarves also have an auction, except half the proceeds go to strengthening the armory and the local city's/town's general care. Gnomish festivals are loud and energetic. Music plays the whole day from horns and banjos and drums, and a dish of corned beef and tomatoes is served throughout the day. Also, even after the sun has set the festival goes on for another few hours, and fireworks light the sky. Humans also celebrate, but the festivals usually differ from town to town generally because of how adaptable humans are. They'll usually follow halfling tradition however.   The festival of Shienunfesht is more and more celebrated as these races spread across the Daralei and traditions mix. Several other variant traditions have evolved, but the above are by far the most common.
