Bragýntůr

Bragýntůr

Bragýntůr (brag-yen-toar) is the capital city of Artkameza, in the Bragýn Woodland.

History

Bragýntůr was founded in the year 9000 BCE, as a small hunting village populated mostly by amiňoiri (am-ee-nyoy-ree) The great Aňoʝů (ah-nyoh-yoo) was born here, and established it as the capital city of the new nation of Artkameza.

Controversy

Many thought Atalanti would be chosen as the capital, due to its strategic location on the Azeni Gulf and its wealth. At the time, Bragýntůr was only a moderately sized crossroads city, while Atalanti was a thriving metropolis and the countries cultural hub. Many Atalantians are still bitter that their city wasn't chosen, even thousands of years later, and the two cities have a fierce rivalry to this day.

Demographics

  • 50% amiňoiri
  • 25% aifin
  • 9% vuui
  • 15% chagan
  • 1% uniri

Government

The city and its affairs are governed by the city council, but it is also the seat of the national monarchy.  Mayoral candidates are voted on by the people and the two with the highest votes are put before a council headed by the monarch, who then chooses  the winner. Beneath the mayor are various council members, department heads, and government workers.

Industry & Trade

The most important exports are wood, ore, and magical artifacts.

Infrastructure

The city has an extensive water and sewage system, though it lags behind Atalanti's. The streets are made out of cobblestone. Bragýntůr is known as the City of Magic because of its large population of witches.

Guilds and Factions

Political factions:

  • Áhů (AH-ah-hoa) Party- The right-wing faction of the city. They advocate for separation of the races and aifin supremacy. They suck
  • Áćanu Party (AH-ach-anoo)- the anti monarchy party, who advocates for abolition of the monarchy and for the institution of democracy

Tourism

Notable Locations

  • The Rỏdýfen (ro-Odye-fen) - This is a magical grove of beautiful crimson trees just outside the main city, circling a clear and sparkling natural spring. This is a pilgrimage site for many magic-users, since the spiritual energy is so strong there
  • The Great Bragýn Tower - The home of the royal family and the political center of the city. It is right at the foot of the Swiiptin foothills, in the Central District of the city.
  • Lỏce Bridge (lo-Ots-ey)- This is the largest bridge in the city, spanning over the Great Artkamez River that runs through the center of the city

Hotels/Inns

  • Gygin's Inn - Run by the friendly and hospitable Gogir Gygin, Gygin's Inn is perfect for the budget traveler. The rooms are small, but very cozy, each with their own hotstone lamps to keep you snug on even the coldest nights. Downstairs is the tavern, serving hot meals and spirits from 6 am to 2 am every day. Pros are that everyday cityfolk can be found here every hour of the day, and it's a great place to experience the everyday culture firsthand. Cons are that its a good trek away from Downtown, Bragýn Tower, and most other super popular tourist spots, but the neighborhood it's in, Forg Borr, is full of fun places to explore, as well as a coal-cart station (the public transport of the city)
  • The Hotel Vạʝỏ (vah-yO-o) - If you want to splurge a bit more, head to this slick city spot. Located in the cultural hub of the city, in the hip neighborhood of Sahrca, you'll experience the best nightlife of Bragýn, right below your hotel window. Cons are that it can be super overwhelming and wild for a first-timer. Pros are that you're only a short hop away from many of the coolest taverns, stores, and landmarks in the city.

Architecture

The city is built mostly from dark wood that is painted green, grey, white, or red generally, as well as a grey stone. The style is very Gothic, with spires and flying buttresses. The people tend to paint their doors with bright colors, to blind evil spirits and welcome in good ones.

Geography

The city is nestled in the foothills of the Swiiptin mountains and is surrounded by thick mixed-tree forest. The city itself is mostly flat, but starts to slope upwards into the mountains on the North side. The Great Bragýn Tower, the home of the royal family and the political center of the city, is right at the foot of the foothills, in the Central district of the city. The city is not built on a grid except for downtown, which makes navigation confusing. The roads weave in and out between the trees and over the hills, intersecting and dividing. The metropolitan area is huge, with the main city surrounded by numerous smaller settlements that are under the city's jurisdiction.

Natural Resources

The thick forest leaves very little land for farming, so most of the agricultural bounty is brought in from the Atlaun Region. But the food they do have locally is wonderful and obtained through hunting and foraging. The Bragýn Forest Region boasts the best game meat, fish, and foraged plants in the whole nation. Fat, healthy boars, gamey and lean deer, buttery Bragýn Carp bursting from streams, and savory Horseshrooms dot the landscape around the city. The neaby foothills are filled with precious ore, such as iron, emeralds, and oiac (oyats) stone (which glows in the dark and is valuable for potions making).
