Chapter 1

* Bzz Bzz Bzz Bzz*

   The sound gets louder and louder , piercing my ears until I feel my body begin to jolt me awake . My eyes shoot open still groggy from sleeping . I rise from my bad hearing most of my bones pop the hairs on my back begin to stick up too as I slowly get up from the bed . 

I look around to see the same small bed like always and of course he was there too in his own bed . His legs hanging over the bed in a jangled mess . That poor bed is on its last stand right now . He was also snoring as loudly as ever , but it’s never enough to actually wake me up .

“ What time is it anyways” I say to myself as I look over to the blaring alarm on the phone still going off .

I press the stop button on my phone to see it’s 9:30 . Lei’s gonna be late if I don’t have to wake him up .

“ Hey come on , get up or you’ll be late for class again .” I say nudging his shoulder rapidly.

“Mmmmm alright , just give me a few more minutes…” Lei says as his face is still submerged deep within his pillow .

I shrug off his laziness and get up to go get ready for the day .

After showering for about a couple of minutes I begin to groom myself and do the daily maintenance. After a bit I then move onto the monster of my body which is the dreaded hair on top of my head.

I could feel all the tangled in my hair , silently saying ow in response to every tangle my comb runs through. As I comb my hair , I stop and suddenly feel incredibly cold . The hair on my body stands up, a weird jolt goes through my body .

As soon as the feeling to my body it immediately leaves my body . I feel shivers as an after effect .

“ Stupid body.” I say muttering to myself making my back to the bedroom .

I look over to Lei to see if he’s gotten up . He’s sitting up with eyes half closed . I sigh and go to the closet to get my clothes . I take the clothes for the day off the hangers , as I’m doing that I see an arm loom over me to reach for clothes . The other reaches to pat my back .

* A loud yawn is heard from behind me*

“Good morning Chris. “ Lei says leaving to the bathroom.

A faint smile reaches my face as I change my clothes . I’m wearing a blue hoodie with Lei’s college mascot on it along with a standard pair of jeans .

After putting all my clothes on I go to look through the fridge in my kitchen .
Although there really isn’t much of anything . My stomach starts to roar from being impatient , I quickly grab a yogurt to get it to shut up .

Lei soon after follows me into the kitchen . I seen him look into the fridge, being disappointed as soon as he opens the door . He walks away with his head down to the door of our apartment . 

“ Hey Chris , tell Polly I can’t go to work today . Coach is making us stay a bit longer for Rugby practice. “.

I give him a thumbs up as he Looks back and leaves out the door . I should probably be leaving soon too .

As soon as I leave the door I could hear all the cars and smells assaulting my senses. The smell could only be described as musk and smog combined it was putrid .

“ Nothing ever changes huh ?” I say locking the door and walking to the side walk . At least work isn’t too far from here .

As I walk to work I see the same people outside begging for food or money . Even the street vendors were making their rounds already . Of course they immediately start packing it up at the sign of the authorities.

“Nearly at work just a couple of more minutes “ I think to myself.

I begin to hear barking behind me , I don’t think I did anything to upset any of the neighbors dogs though . The barking continues to get closer as I keep walking . Beginning to get annoyed I turn around quickly to see a little chihuahua .

It immediately stopped barking the minute I made eye contact . 

“ You good tiny dog” I ask the chihuahua. 

The minute I speak up it’s head starts to glow in the shape of a star and starts sprinting away . 

“ Ooo-Kay then ?” I say turning back around . Did someone mark on their head ? Not a very good drawing if thats the case. 

I eventually make it to the building I work in . It’s exterior was as bright as ever . The neon sign reads ,” Quick n’ Easy Polly “ as the rest of the building is a mix match it purple , yellow , and mint . 

I walk in to immediately see the boss arguing on his phone with presumably a customer . 

“ That’s way TOO cheap and you know it ! Until you see our worth we a company you can F***OFF” he says slamming his phone on desk after hanging up the phone .

“Is it a bad time ? I can leave if you need me too…” I say turning right back to the door . 

He turns to me with his whole face brightening in expression and begins to run my way with open arms .

“Oh my gosh ! It it isn’t my favorite employee . You already know you’re welcome anytime here Chris ! “ He says hugging me gently . 

“ Uhuh , so what’s the job for today Pol? Anything lined up at the moment ?” I ask returning the hug then gently pulling away . 

“ Straight to business as always huh ? Well , yes I do have a job but …. its a big one . The city hired us to do it !” Polly says with excitement leading me to his office . 

He runs to the locker in his office and hands me a trash bin and a claw grabbing hand . 

I looked at the tools and then back at him repeatedly in confusion . What did he sign us up for ? 

“ So the job is … drum roll please … cleaning the park ! Isn’t that exciting ? With you and Lei on the case I’m sure it won’t take long at all .” He say cheerfully . 

“ Cleaning dog crap huh… Right , Lei can’t make it in today so it’s just me .” I say holding in a sigh . 

“ Ah ! Well it happens just to do your best and clean up as much of centeral park as you can then . It’s not too hard to find , I mean it’s literally in the middle of the city !” He says letting out a big chuckle.

“ I’ll get right on it then boss .” I say as I start to walk out of the room to leave. 

I’m gonna need to catch a bud if I wanna get there before noon though . I walk slightly faster to get to the bus stop on time . 

I wait at the bus stop until a bus finally comes to a halt at the stop opening their doors for people to come in and out . As I wait for a moment on that’s when it hits me again .
I feel a chill all throughout my body . I could even see my breath . 

My legs began to weaken on the stairway . My legs give out and I fall backwards onto the street until I feel something stop me from falling . 

It made me gasp for a second we I compose myself and jolt back up . 

“ Hey bud are you okay ? “ a tall tan dude says behind me . His orangish brown hair shines in the sunlight . 

“ Uhh yeah I’m fine . Sorry .” I say quickly getting on the bus. He follows suit in . I’m guessing he needed to get on here too . 

He sits down by me and waves . He seems rather cheerful for being in a city like this . 

“ Names Sunny ! I like the gorilla on your shirt .” He says smiling . 

“ Thanks. My name is a Chris * Cough * so where are you headed ?” I ask trying to socialize back with him . 

“ Nice to meet you Chris . I’m headed to that fancy restaurant over there to meet a friend . Weird question real quick ! Do I look too formal to you ?” He asks me . 

I look him up and down . He has a button up shirt untucked with sunflower patterns covering the shirt . The shirt is unbutton enough to see some of his torso . Along with some nice fitted blue jeans . 

“ I don’t think so . No . You seem relaxed .” I say answering the very strange question . 

“ Yes ! Just finished hat I wanted to hear .” He says waving his hand down in excitement . 

He gets back up as soon as he’s done talking . The bus comes to a halt at the same time . 

“ Well this is my stop ! Nice meeting you , take care not to fall again .” He says with a smile acing goodbye . I wave by back to him as he leaves .

I eventually get the o my stop and get off the bus . I put the bin back on and head into the park . 

As I begin to pick up food wrappers around the park I find I hear little scuttling behind me . Every time I turn around I don’t seem to find anything behind me. 

A couple of hours pass and I’m sweating like crazy , so I decide to sit down under a tree for a bit . 

“ Jeez why’d if have to be blaring hot today ?” I say fanning myself . 

But as I’m sitting down I start to feel my face get red . I looked up at the sky to curse the sun but that’s when I see that there’s something wrong with it . 

It seems closer then usual . Wait , no that’s a ball of fire in the sky . 

“How is that floating ? “ I look up at it . 

It suddenly comes crashing down scorching the center of the park . 

“ oh crap ! “ I say as I run to hide behind a bush . The fire dissipates eventually and when it does I see what looks like a bird on fire . Stupidly, I duck my head out to look at it better . 

It’s head immediately to my direction with its eyes glowing red . It starts screeching which gets me to immediately start running while my legs were shivering in fear at the sight of that creature . 

I continue running but notice I don’t really here much behind . I quickly turn my head back to see it’s not even staring at me anymore . It looks like … it’s chasing a dog ?

“ Wait, that’s the dog from earlier !” I say aloud panicking .

Without thinking I charge back to the bird to run and try save the chihuahua. The bird rises higher in the sky getting ready to dive at the dog .

I run and roll to the chihuahua holding it close to my chest while facing my back to the bird . It becomes enraged and dives down quickly to sink its firey talons into my back .

I could feel my back sizzling and popping . My flesh was popping as it’s pigment was a bright red . The bird eventually feels out and yanks them back out . I immediately fell to the ground and it’s a strong grip on the dog .

“ Stupid dog …. You better be okay .” I say feeling my eyes get heavy . I feel the dog barking , everything is becoming numb . What a pathetic life I lived huh ? 

My eyes begin to open again nothing around me is the same . I’m in white room that seems to go on endlessly . 

“ Pretty stupid way to die , it was just a little dog .” A voice says . 

“ who’s that ?!” I way looking around but the emptiness shows nothing but me . 

“ I am your second chance of sorts? Sure let’s go with that.” The voice says .

“ How ? I feel pretty dead ; I think at least .” I say looking down at my hands. 

Suddenly a necklace filled with metal mask of several varying emotions come floating down to the ground . 

“ Grab this and pledge your loyalty to me , mischief incarnate .” The voice says. 

“ Well there’s nothing else I really can do though huh? “ I say as I reach out for the necklace . 

“ I pledge myself to mischief … incarnate ? Now please get me out of this void!” I say still very confused about my current circumstances.

I hear a sigh in the background . I assumed it’s still coming from that disembodied voice .

“Close enough , I guess. Now remember my name mortal . Loki, good luck my servant , you’ll certainly need it .” The voice says.

“ I feel like I’ve heard that name be-“ I say to myself . But before I finish I get cut off as I pass out . Everything goes entirely dark.
I awake to the same scenario still going down . But why am I not in pain anymore?
I look down to still see the dog in my hand except I’m wearing leather gloves . My whole outfit has changed , there’s a cloak over me , with what seems to be a bunch of belts and leather armor on me . There’s also something on half my face , it feels like a mask.
“ I’m alive ? Crap it’s still behind me though isn’t it ?” I say looking down at the dog.

I turn around to see it even more pissed off then before .I put the dog down and feel the necklace from that drew. around my neck .

I reach out my hand with my necklace in the one her . A phase naturally slips out of my mouth as of it were second nature to me .

“ Ragnarok” I say aloud as purple particles spaw I g in the air begin to form around my hand .

The lights start to form a solid object , it shifts from a sword, wand, then it finally settled on a bow .

The bow is made of metal with fiery cracks going down each end . The bow string is a solid orange color , it looks electric even . Cracks and pops can be heard from the bowstring.

But the bird begins flying in the air getting ready to charge . I have to use this bow or I’ll really die this time . Wait, there’s no actual ammunition though . Nah e I can scare the bird by pulling the bowstring?

It’d be better then dying helplessly .

“ here goes nothing I guess .” I day while pulling the bowstring back . Wylei’s I got it doesn’t hurt just feels warm on my hand .

The bird flinched but continues charging nonetheless . I let go of the bow string and that’s when I hear a sizzling noise fly by me . That came from the bow , now there’s a line of energy sitting inside the bowstring .

The assumed arrow didn’t bit the bird and it’s claws scratch into me again . But for some reason it doesn’t hurt as much as earlier .

“ Asshole.” I say as he claws at me “ Alright what about this ?!” I say , I pull the bowstring back and aim for the bird . The sizzling intensified and shoots off towards the bird .

It takes the hit and falls to the ground . I think I hit its wing . The sizzling and popping coming from the bowstring finally calms down . All that can be heard from it is a low humming now .

The dog runs from behind me and to the bird . He looks at me then at the bird and starts barking . The star behind glowing on his head again .

“Do you want me to aim at it ?” I ask the dog as if it could even reply to me .

I assume that’s the case becuase as soon I said that it’s tail starts wagging . I hold the bow up again and shoot it.

It shoots off slowly making a poofy plush sound as soon as it hits the bird . The bird calms down as it is hit . The flame surrounding the bird begins to come of it and comes toward my bow , as soon as it hits my bow , it looks like it’s sucked into it .

The bird seems to be sleeping now , I fall to the found finally feeling how bad my legs were trembling . A flash of light surrounds me and the new clothing and weapon disappear putting me in my old clothes .

“ what was that all about ? I’m glad that dumb dog is okay at least .” I say trembling on the ground . I’m so tired I can barley keep my eyes open .

“ I think I’m going to just take a little nap here …” I say while the rest of my body becomes limp .

* Thr bird resting on the ground while Chris is passed out here enveloped by Light and shot off into the sky *
