Willie Castile

A Man Who Mattered irl

Willie Castile was a man whose life mattered – who understood that the only true measure of success in life is the content of a person’s character. He was a man of towering integrity, character and faith. He cared deeply for people. Willie and I were teammates at the National Team for 15 years. With him at the helm, we were able to accomplish great things.   Willie was a rock. He always had my back, a piece of wisdom when I asked, an ear for my troubles, and an encouraging word when I needed one. All of us who knew and worked with him admired him deeply. He loved Cheryl with all his heart, his smile and laugh when he spoke of her betrayed how dear she was, and how she delighted him. He loved his kids and grandkids, wanting the very best for them - with wisdom - and his grandson Tyree as his very own son.   He once told me that after his bout with cancer 15 years ago, that every day he had was a gift from God. I believe those days were as much a gift to us as they were to him. He was the kind of man who set the best of examples in everything he did. I can think of nothing better than for my son to live his life the way Willie lived his. I am deeply thankful to God for having had him in my life. We are all in shock at his loss, and miss him sorely.
