The Hall of Healing

Purpose / Function

The Hall of Healing is a place in the Royal Palace of Drifeyer where the Royal Physicians are working to treat the sick and injured. They mainly care for the residents of the royal palace and its staff, but the Hall of Healing also functions as a sort of hospital or infirmary for the entire city of Viëndyr. Sailors and soldiers are the most frequent patients.
Fehnym, the Head of the Royal Physicians practically lives there and has their chambers in a room adjacent to the hall.

Design

The Hall of Healing is a long, rectangular room with a high ceiling and big windows. The walls are made from sandstone and are coated with a thin layer of mother of pearl in some places, making the beige shimmer in the colours of the rainbow. The floor is made from heavy stone plates (also made from sandstone) that have some carvings in them.

Entries

There is an entry from the corridor on the east side of the room and an exit on the west side that leads to the surgery chamber, from where a different door leads to Fehnym's bedroom.

Sensory & Appearance

The smell of herbs and healing balms fill the atmosphere with a calming, pleasant smell that covers any smell of sickness that might be present otherwise.

Denizens

Fehnym is almost always there and there are seven other physicians that are mainly called when there are more than two patients or in cases of emergency.

Contents & Furnishings

The Hall is relatively empty, except for two rows of beds, one lined up on each of the longer walls, as well as a small bedside table next to each bed.

Valuables

The most valuable thing in the Hall of Healing is the collection of rare healing herbs and potions stored in the surgery chamber.

Special Properties

The skylights with their green tint are giving off an aura of healing and together with the healing herb murals and the smell of herbs and healing magic in the air, the entire hall gives off an atmosphere of relaxation, rest and healing.

Alterations

Fehnym's room was added when they took up residence in the palace and the hall has been extended to fit more people during a war in the Age of Fury. Before, the hall was only half the size it is now and the other side functioned as a music room.

Architecture

The Hall of Healing is a large room made, like the rest of the palace, from sandstone and mother of pearl. The arched ceiling is adorned with carved healing herb ornaments and coral mosaic inlays. The ceiling also holds some stained-glass skylights shimmering in gentle orange tones. There are several arched windows that reach almost down to the floor. Along the walls a row of simple beds with white cotton sheets are lined up on each side. At the back of the room a door leads to the healer’s chamber where Fehnym stores their herbs and equipment and where they perform more advanced healing magic and surgeries.

History

The hall of healing was heavily damaged in the attack on the royal palace during the 6th major civil war of Drifeyer and had to be reconstructed afterwards.

Tourism

On days where the palace is open to the public for visits, there is a guided tour through all of the important rooms of the palace, including the Hall of Healing.
