Tryvyum Currency

Prior to the formation of the Consortium, each of the three nations had their own method of exchanging goods and tracking wealth.   Morydal used gems, chunks of precious metal, and Shard as currency, measuring their value in weight.   Ohedyn plant products, such as fruits, herbs, vegetables, and spices for trade, though the concept of currency is lost on them since their economy revolves around providing for each other and sharing resources.   Cogys was the first to create a currency that, by itself, was not of much value, but rather represented something of value. Without access to the precious materials of Morydal and unique plants of Ohedyn, Cogys built its economy on knowledge, issuing stamped metal merits to those with proven mental aptitude or access to secret knowledge. Artifacts, manuscripts, and relics from the past were also of great value, allowing those more inclined to delving into ancient ruins instead of contemplating the mysteries of reality could also acquire wealth. Those responsible for evaluating the merits of a particular piece of information or relic began to consolidate this wealth among themselves, creating a tiered society of academic elite and the most skilled delvers. Eventually, the wealth became so consolidated that the rest of the nation began to crumble into poverty. To stabilize their economy, the ruling class formed the Eternal Library, distributing the merits as currency representative of the knowledge and artifacts contained within it. Now, all information and items recovered from ancient ruins are brought to the Eternal Library and are exchanged for merits.   When the Consortium was formed, a common currency needed to be created. By combining the manufacturing technology of Cogys with the precious gems and metals of Morydal, the Morydan currency has been revised from raw materials to stamped coins which serve as the currency of the Consortium. The other currencies are still in use with their respective countries, but they are becoming less common, often being exchanged for the common currency.   The major denominations from most valuable to least valuable are Talon, Fang, and Claw made of gold, silver, and copper respectively. A Talon is worth ten Fangs and a Fang is worth ten Claws. The value of the denominations is, for the most part, based on the material they are made of, but can sometimes be of slightly greater value depending on the quantity of Shard circulating throughout the Consortium. During the time when the Cliff-Fall (formally Undermine) mining facility was operational, the value of the currency significantly increased as it was baked by the rapidly-growing supply of Shard. However, when the facility was finally abandoned, the currency rapidly returned to its normal value as the supply of Shard, resulting in a period of economic unrest.
