LETTER FROM A CHAMPION
To the highly esteemed King Ferenitus,
Sovereign ruler of the Ailan Kingdom
Greetings Your Majesty,
This scroll comes of I, Tekus, of the Champions that has taken the lasting vow of defending our home of Astoria from evils without & within. I continue to watch over my charge in my advanced years, standing as among the last of the current generation of Champions. I am grateful for the long time of peace that all have enjoy ever since the Malefik Wars, when the dark High Chief Sherdak was banished from our realm.
Yet I’m not at ease currently due to the visions that the Archpriest has been receiving as late. Visions that foretell a new rising darkness that truly threatens us all. This darkness arises from multiple individuals that will come to do evil against all whom they see. I shall relay to you what the Archpriest has told me: One vision of a group of marauders lead by a dark magi of great power, rising from the burning ashes of a wicked group.
Another vision shows a man of great appeal in his noble standing, moving the hearts of many people. His heart is full of evil devises and his hands covered in the sufferings of many. A sorceress who comes to reclaim what was banished, deceiving as many as possible.
A horde of men & monsters led a by leader whose nature is a mixture, who was conceived in wickedness by those cast out for debasement. The last vision the Archpriest saw concerns me greatly: the rising of a sect of dark ones who are somehow like us, whose arrival will potentially face the very nature of our realm.
I, champion Tekus, implore Your Majesty to heed the warnings of the Archpriest & make preparations for these dark times. Though the natoins of Astoria are strong now, vigilance must be the course as that resolve will be greatly tested. I have faith that Yavah will provide a new generation of Champions to stand in those times, yet I do not know when they shall appear & who they are. The only thing I know for sure is that a sign will be given to confirm who they are.
And finally King Ferenitus, my brother, I must go into the Temple one last time to stand on my post. I sense that my days are in their twilight. While I still have my great strength, I will visit you before I enter into my rest as Champion. Grieve not for me, for I have done all I’m able in my blessed life. Stand strong my brother, Your Majesty, and be encouraged.
Your brother & Champion,
Tekus
I wonder what the brother will make of this letter? Looks like the setup for a very interesting story, and hints at an interesting backstory as well.
