Reve Andariel
Reve Andariel is a steaming caldera in the north of Nardowyr. Seemingly completely out of place in this otherwise frozen landscape, this volcano is inhabited by flora and fauna found in no other place on the continent.
Geography
This singular mountain stands alone at the northern tip of the continent. A boiling caldera amongst an icy wasteland, this volcano is one of the most isolated and inhospitable places in Arkhallis.
Not much is known about the mountain, but rumours abound that this place is the home to an ancient red dragon, who's lair is deep within the sulphurous waters of the caldera. Sulphur and other noxious gases spew from the waters, resulting in a landscape that is completely hostile to adventurers, but welcoming to fire, frost and mountain creatures like mephits, rocs, mammoths, polar bears, salamanders, winter wolves, elementals, fire and frost giants, and red dragons.
Fauna & Flora
While the surrounding frozen landscape is nothing short of a wasteland, the Reve Andariel geothermal zone is lush with heat-loving creatures and plants. Heat-resistant algae covers the edges of the caldera, which feeds the local insects, which feed the land-dwelling birds, and so on.
Creatures from the frozen wastes below come up to the caldera often during the winter, when food below is even more scarce than in the "warmer" months. As such, it is not uncommon for yetis and remorhaz to make their homes deep within the mountain side.
Tourism
Not many people come to Reve Andariel. The smart adventurers stay away, as the environment itself is hostile to most folk, and the local wildlife even more so. Most that do adventure into or onto the mountain don't come back, and those that do are often missing at least half of those they ventured with.
Even so, the rumours surrounding the ancient dragon that lives there, and her treasure hoard, are tempting to those with nothing to lose...
