Argyle [town]

Guilds and Factions

The Argyle Magician's Association, generally known as THAMA, is very active here, both in researching and performing magic and in fundraising and public activities such as bake sales and charity events. They present themselves to the town as helpful and quite honest and responsible people, and to the occasional non-local as a club of friendly but rather unprofessional performers of parlour tricks and misdirections.     The Argyle Cryptozoologist's Association (often referred to by other locals as "the Starlighters") is less obviously involved in the community, but just as active, though focus more on research, study and discussion than fundraising and community events (though they do hold a stall at the summer festivities, they just don't showcase their presence quite as flashily there.) They present themselves to the town as a ever-changing collective of scholars, enthusiasts and hunters of monsters who are always more than happy to help when it comes to anything monster related, and to the occasional non-local as a bunch of overexcited conspiracy nuts. They also run the STARLLIGHT magazine, full of reports, stories, drawings and studies of the paranormal. And information on the lastest bake sale or market, but mostly paranormal information.

Geography

Argyle is built in the middle of a large forest, not too far from a river.   The terrain can be rough and rocky, and some areas of the forest are higher than others, but the main thing you'll notice about it is just how lush and vibrant the place is. The trees grow to incredible heights and widths, and almost always have some kind of flowering plant climbing up them. Argyle itself has a little less plant life, but it is still a very lush place, flowers in every windowsill and rooftop, weeds sprouting through every cracked path. It's a temperate region, so it's usually not too hot or cold (though it is very damp.) Sometimes there's the occasional cold snap, and the summer can get quite humid, but overall it's pleasant enough. Visually, the area is beautiful. No matter what time of year it is something brightly coloured is always there, whether it's the giant perfumed flowers, the giant butterflies, the jewel-like nuts, the brightly coloured birds, the tattered rainbow bunting that comes up whenever a faire is set up... It's never dull. The view from the treetops is stunning, and from the bases of the trees it's equally beautiful; it might be a dangerous place, but it's picaresque as they come.

Natural Resources

There's water from the river that runs nearby, wood from the trees (though the forest is protected and you can't take more than a branch or two here.) There's ore in the rocks and, apparently, a great many beautiful crystals of massive size in the caves, but nobody dares go in there. Monsters and all. The soil is better than any fertilizer, and plants grow faster, stronger and more bountifully than anywhere else. You've never seen apples as large or as tasty as the kind they grow here, and the flowers are huge, vibrant and very perfumed. There's wildlife that normally could be hunted, and they tend to be larger and very healthy too, but most don't hunt them, both for reason of protection, and because they don't particularly want to cause a food shortage for the other, larger predators. Another, more unconventional resource is the bugs. Most of them aren't under protection, and, like everything else here, they grow to amazing size and strength. The smaller ones can reach the size of pigeons. The largest, well. The sheds left of them have been known to be made into doors, walls, weapons and furniture.
