Argus
A world of magic and emerging technology. The age of imperialism is over, industrialism is taking hold and the entire world of Argus has been long conquered. Borders are drawn far less than knives against throats in this era, but pride, greed, and grudges are ever-present. Under a veil of parades and commerce, the scales of peace and war are ready to tip.
Railways bloom from each major city, arteries connecting a vast swathe of the continents together. For the first time in known history, there is no distance too great to exchange goods and culture. New horseless vehicles of both steam and arcane power offer fantastical new methods of short-distance transport. While firearms exist of similar simple & magical varieties, spellcasters are oft regarded as the pinnacle tool for war and welfare. Airships have only recently taken to the skies, suggesting to common-folk a unified world on the horizon. Such transportation varieties are important to safely traversing the lands between kingdoms as beasts, bandits, and monsters are far from uncommon. However good these options may seem, sometimes making the trek by foot can avoid the surveillance employed on most major networks.
Millennia ago, the world was once united and the ancient races had mastered creating cities that soared above the unsettled lands of Argus. By some unknown cosmic power, a rift tore open the ocean and divided the continents into what we see today. Other tears in our plane opened up, supposedly linking Argus to realms of fire, air, earth, and water. With this great cataclysm, cities began to fall and how such fantastical floating monuments operated faded from our understanding. After the rift shook the world 3599 years ago, each race had to begin anew, competing against a hostile environment and the envy of each other. Since then society had only just secured its relative safety in the past 500 years, and has been steadily progressing. New applications of formerly primal magicks and our understanding of the physical realm pushed Argus into a modern era of vehicles and lavish comforts.
