Structure
Runeshrine University is a massive institution that spans continents. Each of its campuses is run by a Headmaster, but all report to the Headmaster in Edmund's Bridge where Runeshrine University is headquartered. The campus there is the largest and most prestigious. The university is structured like a normal university: assistant professors can become full professors and then deans. The King of Alandr selects the Headmaster and typically picks a dean, but not always.
Culture
The university culture strongly emphasizes hard work and study. Students are required to pass rigorous standardized tests, write original research papers, and practice their craft as often as possible. It is common for Runeshrine undergraduates to apprentice themselves to local craftsmen and businessmen in order to gain experience. Runeshrine students and faculty pride themselves on being the "best," or "smartest" that Argea has to offer.
Public Agenda
Runeshrine University has the singular objective of driving education and global intelligence forward. Although the university is allegedly free from conflicting interests, its funding is often contingent upon funded or prioritized specific research projects. However, the institution does its best to be objective.
Assets
The institution is funded by the Kingdom of Alandr and receives large grants from other realms and businesses (like the Consortium International of Tradesmen). The land and structures it owns alone are worth an estimated 400 million platinum. If its various ingredient stores, vessels, beasts of burden, books, runes, etc. are accounted for, Runeshrine University is probably worth more than 2 billion platinum.
History
Runeshrine University was founded in Seascale in the Kingdom of Alandr during the Era of the Gods' Reign. It was originally known as Seascale Academy before growing in scope, size, and prestige in later years. After the institution gained popularity in the centuries after its founding, it began to expand considerably. Around 4399 YGR, it founded a new campus between Seascale and Castletown. The headquarters remained there until the Divine Crusades and the fall of the First Kingdom of Alandr. In the aftermath of the war, a new city was built on the peninsula between Alteria and Narum: Edmund's Bridge. The Headmaster of Runeshrine University at the time--a haughty elf named Dordan Xidra--worked alongside St. Edmund the Great, King of Alandr, to grant the university a 2,000-acre parcel of land in the center of the new city.
The partnership between the Kingdom and the University only grew from there. Funds began to flow from the King's coffers into the University's soon thereafter. In 157 YGP, Runeshrine opened its first overseas campus in Virezzo in the Kingdom of Estemar. An affiliate campus was established in Ferrostone in the Dominion of Arkanmere in 162 YGP.
For the past 2200 years, Runeshrine has been the gold standard of education on the planet. It is still the most prestigious university on the planet, but it is no longer the only source of high-quality learning. Universities in Arkanmere and Estemar have almost caught up to Runeshrine in terms of quality and capability.
