Meridium (Mare-IH-dee-um)
An iridescent ore found on the ocean floor used to make corrosion-free tools such as tridents, hooks, and weapons. Meridium flakes appear as long shards of pearl; smelted ore maintains the same appearance, but is glossy.
It can be fashioned into weapons and items, but is too unstable to make into useful armor or shields.
Item statistics inspired by warpglass from Pathfinder 2e.

Properties
Material Characteristics
Meridium looks pearly; in its raw form, it is brittle and breaks into sharp fragments. When smelted, however, the material becomes smooth and glossy while maintaining its iridescent quality.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Invulnerable to rust and other forms of corrosion.
Geology & Geography
Meridium can only be found in the ocean. It is typically found near coral reefs or in bright, iridescent veins in underwater canyon walls.
History & Usage
History
Early Sterlingstead locals discovered rich deposits of an iridescent ore known as meridium beneath the waves of The Witch Tides and used it to make corrosion-free maritime tools. Sailors, merchants, and navies immediately realized the value. Wealth and resources began to pour into the port, catapulting Sterlingstead to the fore of the world's cities practically overnight. While other deposits of meridium are known, the Sterlingstead deposit is, by far, the world's largest.
Everyday use
Used to fashion tools that need to be corrosion-free, like those used in saltwater.
