Nuvaris Theocratic Empire

"The Nuvaris, a theocractic empire, doomed to fail from the beginning."   "How so?"   "You try combining staunch religious ideals with the growth of technology nothing short of magic, constantly pushing the boundries of what is and isn't possible. Then ask me that again."   -Conversation between two scholars   The Nuvaris, was a curious empire that has long fascinated scholars and commoners alike. Legendary for its technolgical wonders, many treasure hunters have attempted to salvage its many wonders, often to little avail.   The Nuvaris was a two headed snake. One, the steadfast religious leaders, and the other, the constantly evolving creators.

Public Agenda

To provide the proper joining of the free will of humans and the creation of wonders no other species can.

At their height, they had control of numerous cities, such as the City of Forlorn Souls and several continents bore their flag. They, much to their chagrin, never attained the same pure land control as the Segul, their predecessors.   Their armies were sizable, but were most notably bolstered by their technology. Unlike in the Imperiate Empire that would follow, the Nuvaris had few limitations on sorcery and magic, and their clergy were notable for being powerful spellcasters.   Overall, they were quite rich, due to their abundance of natural resources, and trade with the smaller kingdoms outside of their control. However, most of the money was diverted to the technological advancments and the royalty, leaving little for the commoners of th empire.

History

The Nuvaris were one of the great empires of old, and were the direct predecessors to the current reigning empire, the Imperiate.   Formed some 1800 years ago, the Nuvaris formed after the Segul Split, in which the over-extended Segul empire collapsed into a plethora of infighting warring states. Out of these ashes rose the Nuvaris, a hyper-fanatical empire with a penchant for technological advancement. They would preach the ideals of subservience to the power of the Infinite Ones, and took great pride in what they called "The Mind of Humanity", the idea that humans were given the gift of true sentience and the ability to create and shape technological marvels. However, as time grew on, technology outpaced the strict rules of the clergy, and society began to drift apart.   Those who supported the church remained steadfast in their ideals and humble servitude of the Infinite Ones, branding those who would create technological "abominations" outside their longstanding beliefs heretics.   Those who supported technology, however, fought against the waning power of the church, offering tantalizing promises of glory and an empire that would rival the size of the old Segul.   Inevitably, a war broke out, tearing the world apart as their magic adept clegry fought against their technologically superior brethren. Families were torn apart as some chose opposing sides. Even the ruling class was crippled by infighting and political disagreements.   It should come as no surprise then, that the Nuvaris empire collapsed. During this period, the famed Order of the Paradigm would be formed by Grandmaster Andor Kighn, who himself was an exiled Nuvarian knight. The Order helped bring an end to the war, bringing stability and order as the Imperiate Empire quickly rose to fill the power vacuum.   Today, the Nuvaris are no more. Their legacy partially lives on in the technology still used, though much of it was lost. Pieces such as the Evvrayular have been salvaged in small numbers as mementos of the past.
