Michael's Report, 2022-08-14
General Summary
The session picked up after a fight against the scarecrow and fleshborn monstrosities that guarded the Reivan elder's tent in her absence. Searching the tent, we found alchemical supplies and tools, but no clear answer as to what the elder had been doing.
After waiting until nightfall, the Elder returned. Following a brief and distrustful attempt at dialogue, a fight ensued when she attempted to set her tent and its contents on fire. Things were not going great for us in the ensuing conflict, but the fight was not decisively decided. Instead, once the tent was aflame, the Elder offerred to stand down if the party would just let it burn - an offer that the party accepted.
Speaking on less confrontational, though still far from friendly terms, the mysterious elder revealed herself to be a powerful Reivan wizard named Lashan Valchek vas Koros - or rather, a Simulacrum thereof. She claimed that the simulacrum had been sent to the area to conduct research and experiments on what could be accomplished with flesh, and promised that she would leave the area and end this activity now that the evidence of her work had been destroyed.
Lashan seemed irritated that we were not already familiar with her place in history, but did explain that she had once created clones of herself to ensure her revival in the event of her death. In an unanticipated error, all of her clones activated upon her death. This led to a war between the clones, each vying to be the true and sole inheritor of the identity of Lashan Valchek vas Koros.
The elder would not give many other answers beyond vague riddles, but said she would answer more questions if we retrieve for her an item known as the Stone of Secrets from the Zonthosh Guild. She confirmed our suspicions that the guild's namesake, Zonthosh, is indeed a Beholder. She was also able to name several key members of the guild, and gave a suggestion that we could infiltrate them by attempting to work for them.
Lashan parted ways with us, but pointed us to Brunhild Morningfall as a contact that we should find in Brightridge should we succeed in finding the Stone. The party previously knew Brunhild as the duplicitious City Watch member that was involved with The Gilded Grim.
