Draconic Revolution Military Conflict in Ardrim | World Anvil

Draconic Revolution

The Draconic Revolution was one of the most influential wars outside of the Great Iribalt War, the Great Desolation, and the War of Many Suns. It freed an entirely new race to the world as well as establishing the path that the development of modern nations and power dynamics would take.

The Conflict

Prelude

During the War for Rythkar, the dragons (mostly the chromatics) created and enslaved the dragonborn to serve them as infantry and spies in the war. However, upon the dragons' defeat, many of their dragonborn slaves escaped and went into hiding. Over time, this group managed to free some of their brethren from slavery clandestinely. Once their numbers had grown, they planned an assassination against a blue dragon who had served a large role in the war and had many dragonborn slaves. While the assassination itself did not go to plan, the dragonborn soldiers still managed to kill the dragon and free its slaves.

Battlefield

The battlefield of the Draconic Revolution was mostly contained within Arvyr, as this was the home of the majority of chromatic dragons as well as the location of the War for Rythkar.

The Engagement

The manner in which the dragonborn forces engaged in battle, especially at the beginning of the war, is very unique. This is because dragons are inherently more powerful than dragonborn. As such, the dragonborn forces relied on ambush tactics in which they would isolate a single target and kill it, both weakening the opposing force as well as bolstering theirs by freeing their brethren.   However, the terms of engagement changed dramatically once the metallic dragons of the Agotharian Kingdoms began supporting the dragonborn war effort. This allowed them to engage with the chromatic dragons far more directly, as well as being bolstered in numbers by the metallic dragonborn.

Outcome

The war led to the gaining of freedom by the dragonborn as well as the dissolution of the Agotharian Kingdoms

Aftermath

This war would ultimately cause the foundation of Maenor as well as the general withdrawal of dragons from the societies of mortals.
