A carapace animal that lives on the third layer of the
Deprin Dunes where it lives in the mud.
Appearance
A small creature with a variety of small centipede-like legs that sprout from its back and can be tucked into its carapace. The creature has a dark brown carapace and is the size of a book. The front of the animal is a protruding bundle of feelers that allow the creature to move in its underground mud tunnels. The feelers whip along the front of it quickly to feel out the area around it and has smaller ones behind it to detect prey that disrupts the mud behind it.
Aquatic Living
Despite its appearance, the animal is mostly aquatic and absorbs the water from the mud pits and takes the nutrients from it to survive. This absorption of raw nutrients makes the creature sought after by the
Yalvake as a precious food source despite its mostly rotten taste. The creature uses its bundles of legs to swim through the terrain and while fins would slow a normal creature down the wedge-like shape of each appendage allows for quick cuts through the mud that make traversal easy. The animal is fairly slow in the mud but can have a quick burst of speed to propel them out of the way of danger.
Predators
The Tractmites are fairly few in numbers so they are attacked usually one versus one. They are not often attacked by other creatures that live in the mud but are instead speared by Yalvake from above or attacked by a group that will usually kill the Tractmite. The Tractmites often survive by their peacful nature and their slight cloaking sue to the similar color of mud to their carapace.
