Aikhuluran Homes

No building can take a beating like the rounded Vishith homes of Aikhulura. They're designed, in every respect, to survive Aikhulura's numerous superstorms. From their distinctive hexagonal shape to their low roofs and smooth exteriors, the structures are built with aerodynamics in mind. Aikhuluran architecture also takes some design inspiration from the native fauna.

Architecture

Aikhuluran homes are designed to withstand the massive, continent-spanning hurricanes that occur frequently on the planet. They are typically laid out with a hexagonal shape with low roofs, and are elevated above the ground to prevent flooding. These houses are also equipped with hurricane shutters to cover their few windows. In coastal areas, homes are built much higher than inland areas, as coastal regions are more prone to flooding. The homes themselves tend to have open floor plans.
In some areas, particularly in cities, buildings are protected by a large, retractable domelike structure that covers the whole area to protect it from a storm. Such covers take significant design inspiration from the way some local flora survive storms by closing in on themselves. Though the domes provide an extra level of protection, even these homes are nearly always hexagonal in design.

History

The Vishith had to learn about construction all over again when they came to the planet Aikhulura. Aikhulura's superstorms quickly destroyed the first buildings they constructed. Between wind, rain, and floods, it felt as if the planet itself was trying to drive them away. Still, they persisted, and over time the Vishith learned to build new structures that could withstand whatever Aikhulura threw their way.
Within just a few decades the Vishith had perfected most of the design tenets they still use to this day, and some buildings from those early days have survived centuries of Aikhuluran storms, still standing proud.
