Azol (Sun Steel)
Azol is a bronze coloured material mined from the mountains on the Northern Islands and the North coast of Archaera. It has the rich golden-honey tone of bronze, that is lighter and stronger than steel. It is used to make weapons, jewelry, buttons, clasps, and just about anything that can be made of metal. It has a bright shine, and, when worked properly, is said to glow lightly in even the deepest darkness.
Most notably, the knives given to Istari Or'Sedan by her uncle Kasnir Or'Sedan are forged from Sun Steel and set with opals. The dagger given to Kree Al'Beric by Kasnir after he and Istari are wed is also forged from Sun Steel, though it lacked opals and had a wire wrapped hilt covered in green leather.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Sun Steel is a gold-bronze coloured metal that is lighter and stronger than steel. It has a strong sheen and luster, and is visible with a slight gold glow even in the deepest darkness. It is most often handled like damascus steel, and blades forged from it have the folded light and dark pattern of a damascus blade, which, coupled with its natural strength, help it keep a sharp edge much longer than other metals.
Geology & Geography
Sun steel is primarily mined in the mountains of the Northern Islands and the mountain range along the north coast in the territories of the elves and the Ronar, though it has been found in very small quantities in various places around the rest of the continent.
History & Usage
Everyday use
It is most commonly used in weapons, though these weapons are most often found with the Ronar as few possess the skill to forge it outside of the Ronar.
