Embla, Patron of Totems
History
Embla was a skilled wood carver in her village, carving small replicas of the animals she saw around her. She never made the same animal twice. Her talent was so great and so exclusive that people came from the far reaches of Arcasai to buy or admire them. One day, a traveler told her that one of her precious carvings had been bled upon. She was distraught until she read further, where it was said the injured man then began to form wings and feathers. When the blood dried, the man returned to normal. Embla became obsessed with finding her own. She tested the ones she had, carefully cleaning them afterward, and then when the tide of visitors came, she sold everything and began travelling. On her travels, Embla carved every creature she saw, testing them all and selling them after. During this time, the carvings, now known as "Totems" became more popular, and a culture started forming around them. People would have their Totems ritually implanted in their bodies, so that they could be transformed forever. Embla ascended to demigodhood during this time.Current Day
Embla has not yet found her Totem. After carving every beast in Arcasai, Embla set off across the sea. Like all the others who have sailed beyond the horizon, she has not returned.
