Vera Basia Magnos
Vera Magnos is the main protagonist of the
Arcadia series. She is the younger sister of
Dorrun Magnos and the daughter of
Metea Magnos who is the one responsible for making her into one of the
Cyborgs.
Physical Description
Vera is a healthy young girl whose body has cyborg modifications. These modifications include her eyes, entire right arm, left forearm and hand, left calf, and her entire right leg.
Vera's cyborg parts are made of silvery metal, and are not designed to be covered with fake skin like that of
Androids/Automatons out of ease for replacement and modifications. They are meant to perform all normal functions as well as enhance her natural capabilities and are powered by small amounts of concentrated
Aether.
Vera has a scar on her left eye, running from just above her cheek up to her brow. She has a small mole under her right eye, which her brother often teases her about.
Vera, no matter what she is doing or where she is going, will walk fast. She also has a habit of pacing.
Cyborg Limbs
Vera's cyborg limbs consist of a solid layer of outer metal with wiring underneath. There are hatches for easy access to wiring on her right thigh, both calves, both forearms, and right upper arm. Her knees, ankles, heels, and elbows, and right shoulder consist of round balls of metal attached to her limbs through
Aether.
Her cyborg limbs enhance her natural strength, making her stronger than many adult men. Her legs grant her extra speed, and her cyborg hands make her ambidextrous. Her cyborg "muscle memory" also allows her to pick up skills quicker and easier than most people.
Hands
Similar to the joints elsewhere on her cyborg limbs, the joints in Vera's fingers are metal balls connected with
Aether. Her wrists consist of a layer of flexible material under the metal of her hands and arms, allowing for more freedom of movement. A hatch can be found on the back of either hand. On her left, a flashlight rests on top of the hatch, which Vera can turn on by tapping the glass. It cannot be removed, but rather, is part of the hatch.
Eyes
Vera is one of the only
Cyborgs to have mechanical eyes, as the technology is dangerous and new. Her eyes are the most complicated part of her cyborg body. Clear, icy blue in color, Vera is often told they look inhuman (which, of course, they aren't) or intimidating. A less cool and flashy feature her eyes give her is the need to blink less than a normal person. As far as cooler features go, Vera's eyes will naturally adjust to whatever light she is in, allowing her to see clearly in intense brightness or pitch dark. There are limits to this, of course, but if Vera wished, she could stare at the sun with no pain at all. Vera's eyes also allow her to focus in on small, minute details, and see clearly across large distances.
Other
Though minimal brain tampering has been done on Vera since it can be incredibly dangerous in what it can do to
Cyborgs, a side-effect of some of Vera's procedures is a decreased need for sleep. Vera sleeps an average of 8 hours per week as opposed to 8 hours a day.
Most of Vera's clothes are government-issued cyborg standard, consisting of a brown jacket, black gloves, t-shirt, jeans, and leather boots that go up to her knees. These are the clothes that she wears during most training exercises, and is required to wear when going out in public in an effort to hide her being a cyborg, as public opinion on
Cyborgs isn't exactly positive.
For casual clothes, Vera still feels most comfortable in things that cover most of her cyborg parts, preferring sweaters, jeans, or skirts with leggings during winter. During the summer, she may wear a t-shirt or tank top with shorts. She feels uncomfortable wearing skirts without leggings underneath, and only wears dresses when necessary (which isn't often). She prefers simple clothes, with solid colors or simple patterns. Her favorite color is red, so she owns many red clothes.

Personality Characteristics
Prior to the beginning of the
Arcadia series, Vera's only motivation is to remain alive. She only wishes to survive any more modifications that will be made to her body and be a good sister to
Dorrun Magnos.
As the series begins to kick off, Vera still desires those two things, but finds herself with new motivations. She begins to wish for freedom from the people who have controlled her her entire life, namely her mother. She also longs for autonomy, for her body to be her own again, to not be modified anymore against her will.
As Vera meets more
Humans,
Androids/Automatons, and even other
Cyborgs that have all been oppressed under the same system and put through the same suffering, something sparks within her, and she begins to wish to liberate others as well as herself.
Deeper down, Vera wants to be loved and desired by others. She wants the familial love of her brother, but also longs for a parental figure in her life, as well as friends and romance. She wants to feel valuable for something other than her being a cyborg. She wants to be seen as something other than a cyborg; she wants her humanity back. Though selfish, this does feed into her desire to help others.
As soon as Vera begins to try and win back her autonomy and freedom, she becomes incredibly stubborn and motivated, letting nothing stand in her way.
Above all, Vera's strongest virtue is her love for her brother. Though she feels helpless until the beginning of the Arcadia series, she would have do anything to protect him as he protects her, even if she knew it would put her in danger. As the story progresses, she finds herself feeling this way towards others as well.
Vera can be incredibly selfish when it comes to anything and everything. She will take the last slice of pie if she thinks someone else might eat it first and she won't lend you anything. The only exception to this would be if you happened to be your brother, but there's only one of him, so chances are you're not.
Because of the inhuman experimentation she has been subjected to since a young age, Vera is pessimistic about anything and anyone's intentions. Though somewhat justified due to her traumas, this still makes Vera come across as a very negative and mean person.
Social
Vera was raised in the universal religion of
The Order of the Living God. Like most people, she accepts the power and existence of
The Trinity, but remains in secret fear of them rather than reverence, since she is aware that one of The Trinity,
Metea Magnos, is her mother. Because of this, although she acknowledges her mother as having divine power, she has trouble uniting her mother and The Trinity member in her head, seeing her mother as two separate entities.
She outwardly recognizes the death of
The Old God and that
The Trinity gained their power through The Old God's death, but still remains skeptical as to whether or not it actually happened, as she wasn't alive to experience it.
Vera's aversion to and fear of social interactions are all due to her past traumas and affect her relationships with others drastically. She is an extremely introverted girl who has trouble making friends and connecting with others. She is fairly reserved and finds it hard to talk to anyone who isn't her brother. She tends to be a very pessimistic person, and feels inherently threatened by many things she sees or experiences. Because of this, no matter how polite she tries to be, she often comes across as defensive and fearful, which puts many people off.
Vera has a habit of surveying her surroundings intently, no matter where she is and how much detail the world around her may or may not have. Because of this, she rarely makes eye contact with anyone, rather darting her gaze around.
Vera rarely speaks unless she has to, and when she does, she will often sound timid, scared, and/or defensive. Her voice is almost always quiet, and she rarely raises it.
Relationship Reasoning
Vera is scared of her mother, but since Metea is a member of The Trinity, Vera is forced to perform a degree of reverence for her, which includes being truthful to her. Since Vera being Metea's daughter is kept secret, Metea must act as if Vera is only another one of the Cyborgs and nothing more.
The two of them have never shared an actual mother-daughter bond due to the experimentation Metea allowed to be performed on Vera and their bred hatred for one another. Vera does not think of Metea as a mother.
Legal Status
Metea is the legal mother of Vera, though the knowledge is kept secret
Nicknames & Petnames
Vera often calls Dorrun "Dorian", or, in private, "Dory".
Relationship Reasoning
For Vera, Dorrun is the only person who has ever actually been there for her when she needed someone. Although Dorrun has friends, he feels much the same towards his sister and is incredibly protective of her.
