The Dead Isles

This cluster of islands somewhat close to the coasts of Westrana and Eischland used to be known as The Verdant Isles. The name change occurred somewhere in the middle of the year 949 of the Age of Awakening to warn people away from journeying too close. A Wish spell gone wrong now affected the entire island group and the ocean around it, draining all life from anyone coming in too close of a proximity. If any creature survived the initial brush with the affliction and returned home, they risked spreading it beyond the border of the enchantment keeping it contained.

Geography

In the middle of the largest island stands a tall mountain. Its dark rock and the surrounding area clearly shows that it is a volcano that has been inactive for a long time. This mountain is the only real distinguishable landmark in an otherwise barren terrain, completely void of life. A large area around the mountain is rocky and difficult terrain to go through. Jagged rocks and hidden pockets where one misstep can cause a fall of sometimes up to a hundred feet means that you should watch your step. If you ever make it that far into the main island.   All of the islands have more or less uneven terrain spanning their entire surface. Steep hills surround valleys that sometime contain discoloured lakes, filled with dead matter that has not decomposed over even a thousand years. The smell is pungent to say the least and any creature unfortunate enough to come upon one would probably have a difficult time keeping the contents of its stomach.   The plants and creatures that lived on The Dead Isles once upon a time have deteriorated into thick mulch in some places and in others there still remain some petrified trees, long dead. Like skeletons of nature they reach up toward the sky or lay across the barren ground. Joining the trees are bones of the animals that once thrived in the verdant environment of these islands.
