Desert Moss
Unlikely as it may seem, the desert moss can only be found in the driest parts of the Imelan deserts. Mainly white in colour with some mottling of light blue and faint orange, the desert moss is difficult to find in the desert sands not only because of its muted colouration but also because it only emerges at night under the light of the moon. During sunlight hours the desert moss stays underneath the sand and makes its way to the surface once the sun has set and the sands cool down.
The discovery of desert moss is sometimes credited to Flare Tahan, a fire genasi adventurer, who wrote about it in their published memoirs in the year 2306 of the Age of Parting. However, most locals to the area agree that their ancestors knew about and used desert moss for centuries before Flare wrote about it, but no one before them had sought such widespread acclaim.

This peculiar moss gets its nutrients from absorbing the inherent magic that seeps through the connections between planes. Studies have shown that the desert moss requires a very specific blend of planar magics from the Elemental Plane of Fire as well as the Feywild, which is why it surfaces at night to absorb moonlight.

The desert moss is quite rare - or at least challenging to find because of the inherent dangers of venturing so deep into the desert, far away from sources of water. Nevertheless, people go in search for it thanks to it being an excellent ingredient for some potions and having other magical uses. Many of the potions can be brewed using other ingredients as a substitute but alchemists generally agree that the efficacy is heightened when adding desert moss.
