Ufrian Steel

Utility

The steel is best used in armor, specifically heavy plate, although much of the Ufrian army is armored lightly. However, they will often reinforce leather armoring with some scaling of the steel plates. It is also used in weaponry, but due to the nature of the steel, it doesn't make weapons sharper or more useful, just more durable. There have been a few instances where the steel is used in the construction of important buildings, but even that is experimental and very little has been done with that.

Access & Availability

The technology itself, as in the actual steel, is available for anyone who can pay the price. It runs more expensive than regular steel, but will sell to just about anybody. However, the formula to make the steel is closely guarded by only a handful of armorers, and to their apprentices. It is very much a Ufiri secret.

Complexity

The usual tools needed to make armor or weapons or melting ore are all that's needed. However, it requires a unique blending of classic steel, salt water, and wyvern blood, and often only a talented armorer or blacksmith can actually create the Ufrian steel. Also wyvern blood is complicated to get a hold of if the user isn't able to just buy it from a shop.

Discovery

A group of armorers on Aborcona's Fang were experimenting with steel and its protection as armor, hoping to find way to improve the steel and make it stronger. After tempering the metal with salt water and wyvern blood, they discovered the way the steel worked was like an entirely new metal. It was incredibly strong and resistant to many types of damage. The armorers began to replicate this steel in their future work, and soon its construction was sweeping Eversun, with a few pieces being sold elsewhere.
