Aural Haze

The manipulation of one's aura is not a stable practice. If unprepared and untrained, or even through just an unfortunate accident, a person's mind and aura can become permanently warped.

Causes

When using aural magic, a person must have a certain amount of training in stilling the mind as their aura is formed from the energies their body gives off. If the energy is manipulated in just the wrong way, the body's energies can cave in or attack itself, adversely affecting the mind and leaving the aura itself unstable.

Symptoms

The symptoms can be dangerous, not just to the afflicted but to outside people as well. The mental symptoms include hallucinations, phantom pains, headaches that can cause the afflicted to become catatonic for a period of time, amnesia, and other periods of psychosis. The mental symptoms can cause the afflicted to see enemies around them, or think they're in danger, causing them to lash out and hurt those around them. With the aura itself being affected, even if the afflicted is mostly in their right mind or not wanting to hurt anyone, the instability of the aura can create a harmful environment in its unpredictable reactions to energy spikes in the brain; flaring up to the point of visibility, exploding outward and hurting things around it, sucking oxygen from the air, and much more.

Cultural Reception

There are often mixed views about those with Aural Haze. Some respect them for trying to master an incredibly unstable type of magic, and others think they are foolish for the same reasons. However, either way sufferers of Aural Haze are always allowed in centers for mental illness and are not refused care. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the illness many afflicted are not able to stay for long in one center, either because they bring danger near them or because their hallucinations send them in fits to try and escape.
