Valor at The Brim

General Summary

ALRIGHT BARD FELLOW, listen closely, as I'm about to tell you about the most unspeakable evil I and my comrades have faced. Do you know that wall that was recently built at the neck? Yeah, we're the reason. NO NO DON'T BE SCARED, I did not mean it like that. I meant that we found an abyssal portal and stopped some abyssal horrors from unleashing I-don't-know-what onto this world. Ah ehm.. let me roll it back a bit.   Alright, so when I was only just of age my tribe was attacked by an army of trolls you see. I did not have my own blade yet BUT I was ARMED more than well enough *flexes my arms*. So I grabbed the chief troll and headbutted him RIGHT ON HIS NOGGIN. That's what I got this from *points at troll tooth lodged in my head*. That's why they call me Brokenbrow. You see and after tha- O, you'd like me to skip ahead to what happened at the Brim.. very well then.   So we was a couple of adventurers working for this wizard Miralem, gettin' 'im bunch of materials he needed to do his magiks frequently. When we get approached by this hooded fellow and a beautiful blond bard named Erika Sandt, (too bad she died eh-) I'LL GET TO THAT, the hooded fellow was a cleric named Serrid Oakfort. They asked us to join them in a quest, rewarding us with enchantments awarded in front. We immediately jumped on it as I remember chuggin' me pint halfway.   We went to Ferroset to the west, to which we met a blacksmith who made "sockets" into our weapons, enabling them to be infused with gems. A priest in the chapel added an enchantment to our weapons.   After which Serrid brought us to what they called "our hill" which was the home of Sir Fergus Kingsley and his squire David Rasenbach and a weathered tower home to the wizard Illidan. Illidan enchanted our weapons and we all departed towards the cave of unspoken horrors.  David stayed at the entrance of the cave, keeping watch on the entrance, as our newly made acquaintances took lead into our exploration into the cave. Inside, we heard strange whispers... not the kind you hear behind the vines, the kind which pierces your very being and wyrm themselves in your head, words of a language unbeknownst to yourselves but yet completely alluring and clear, ominous is what it was... It wasn't long till we discovered we weren't alone, a black shade shaped like a tentacle grabbed Serrid and started afflicting him greatly. We pulled him out and he was covered in black spots, his eyes out of focus, trembling, black spots covering his skin, something took hold of him. We managed to snap him out of it ever so slightly as he broke out in a cold sweat. I think we all realized at that moment that whatever we were facing that night, would either have to be killed or would take our lives without hesitation.   As we got on our feet, the cave started to darken, our eyes were blessed by Jaxri Katho-Vone follower of the great god Habbakuk granting us the ability to see far into the abyss. The whispers got stronger.. and Erika suddenly broke out in a sprint, running into the darkness ahead. We tried to run after her but were slowed having to deal with more black tentacle-like shades. Fortunately Uruk the polearm master was able to make quick work of 'em and we were able to hasten our pursuit. Furthermore, there were eggs laid in every crevice, giant leeches emerging when hatched. We destroyed most of them as we ventured deeper into the cave. What we found, however... was beyond our imaginations... there was... some creature... an amalgamation of green skin, skin whirring into directions hard to follow... holding Erika in its tendrils... or at least, what was left of her. Erika was no longer with us, her body hung there in the air, decapitated, as tendrils entered her body ripping it apart. Sir Fergus charged ahead but was immediately grappled by it, as we all made our charge. Suddenly, however, it retreated into itself, leaving nothing behind except a puddle of blood mixed with what remained of Sir Fergus and Erika, his blade, stained on the stone flooring. We sealed that portion of the cave, hoping to seal whatever that was inside if it was to return. Further, into the cave, we encountered more eggs and leeches amongst a tall standing creature from the abyss, a (REDACTED) is what we call it, a bringer of woes standing more than 10 feet tall with elongated limbs, walking on all fours with an unspeakable horror for a face. Its screech nullified any of our magiks. I snuck past a crevice in the wall in order to flank it. As I got behind it, I threw two of my axes into it letting out a roar that would shake you to the bone. I wanted to make sure it looked at no one except me, and I succeeded. As it turned around allowing the half-ling Koramin Highshine  the unscathed to jump on it, lodging his thundering daggers into its flesh. The creature was no more and we took a short rest before resuming our descent.    Further in we discovered veins of electrum, the stuff that powers your (REDACTED) over there. We found some sort of ritual happening, dark magiks were at play and what seemed to be a portal was being opened by an abyssal monster, the lair was huge and more than we could deal with at the time and thus we stealthed past it. Inside we found a room with five pillars bearing spikes, a ritual circle in the middle of the room. On Serrid's and Illidan's judgement we had to make a sacrifice here in order to proceed, we were worried that they were being affected by the whispers, yet they ascertained that the whispers were instead trying to stop them. In good faith we proceeded with the ritual, letting blood on the spikes allowing it to flow into the crevices on the floor, as Illidan sacrificed himself in the circle. It took his breath away at which we promptly used a revivify scroll to bring his breath back to him. The path opened to us and we knew it was all or nothing from this point onwards. If you were to make your way in there you will discover our names scratched into the wall as we weren't certain we would survive. Under our names we wrote "we stopped the evil, for now" we can all laugh about it now thinking back. In the following part of the cave, we encounted another (REDACTED) as we encountered earlier, alongside an abyssal spellcaster bearing one large green eye spanning about 4 feet across. Piercing your very soul and inhibiting our ability to control our bodies. It was gnarly, as Uruk, and Ashiro Muramasa both lost consciousness and I was grappled by the spellcaster. As I'm barely holding on to my life, screaming out of the top of me lungs. It was Jaxri who pulled me out and Koramin who made quick work of the creature, jumping into his mouth and lodging his blade in his noggin'. I owe my life to those two really, we all owe our lives to em. If they weren't there that day, we wouldn't be having this conversation here dear bard. Heavily bleeding, we finished the job sealing the cave and made our escape. An army later sweeped the cave driving back the abyssal forces and the wall you know off was erected promptly.    It's not all shine and butterflies being an adventurer. But after we show our valor, and everyone can rest easy, we're able to tell the tale provided we survive. And survive them we did, and so *slaps back of bard, you better spread our deeds across the lands will ya, I promise you 40 gold pieces for every tavern I walk into where they recognize me face. Alright OFF YOU GO, I demand some solitude to show my respects to the fallen.
