The machine sentience theory is a rather radical theory that states that the collective idea and fear people have of technology allowed technology itself to gain sentience. Many of these radical researchers point towards the
Steamborn as a form of proof of this theory. This is a rather flawed example due to the fact that steamborn were given a form of the individual soul from some unknown mechanism of the project. Their sentience and sapience does not come from some esoteric collective technological mind. So far the greatest evidence supporting the theory is how sometimes machines seem to magically function again after being declared broken or how some machines seemingly work better after complimenting or thanking. This can of course be written off as faulty reporting on damages or simple superstition.
The very theory is grounded in the already radical thought deification theory, which states that the thoughts of sentient and sapient creatures are what originally shaped all mythical beings such as gods or demons. The deification theory started gaining more track after the death of
Archmage Delivan, with many stating that the very monstrosity that killed him was the personification of the fear and hatred many felt towards the archmage. So far this theory does not have any truly credible proof except that many early documents and ruins seem to reference many demonic or mythical beings that exist. This can of course also simply mean that these beings existed even back then.
Thus both theories are declared radical and often dismissed as non-sensical. Personally, I see no reason to believe the theories. However, should the opportunity present itself I would not mind putting them to the test.
ADDENDUM: After meeting a magic user called
Groll Grant, who states that machines talk to him and granted him magical powers. I have started creating experiments and researching the machine sentience theory, I personally believe him to be a sorcerer who has repressed his gift. Something that is not uncommon amongst sorcerers.
