Ottokath's Journal #4

General Summary

"Wise is the man who fears a woodelf in a forest."   That is what my father used to say. We all know how that turned out, but I can't say his words lacked meaning. Having met Baker and handed him his orders, I introduced myself as their guide and scout for this mission. I could tell the men distrusted me, me being a rather standout individual, but they followed him and he followed me. I can't complain really. We needed more supplies, but I was hoping to set up an ambush including traps and hiding places. That could not wait. As such I lent my horse to two of the soldiers and send them back to Northpoint with a list of needed supplies.   We spend the rest of the day setting up pitfalls and other such traps around the clearing, leaving the Venatorii entry free. The rest of the party joined me an hour before the meeting time and told me of the fate of the two soldiers I sent for them. They did not make it back to town and were killed on the road.   Everyone took their places and waited, me behind where the Venatorii would be, in support of the archer assigned to me. Hamood and Mavis prepared to receive them in the open. To my surprise, when they arrived, a mage accompanied them. This worried me, but now was not the time to falter. As soon as they had reached the center I hit the with Faerie Fire, covering half of them in glowing dust. What followed was a brutal combat with losses on both sides. Only one of the Venatorii left that clearing alive and free. To the other's disappointment, he was the one to carry the reward we were to receive for blowing up the tavern. Bloodmoney if you ask me.   With the battle won we returned to the Granite Tower to celebrate and after informing the duke, we headed to the local inn.   After the battle, me being rather heavily wounded by a vicious blow, had an argument with Mavis about who ought drink the healing potion. As she was just as wounded as I was, I could not help but let the tiny human have it. After all, once my power calmed down, nature would heal my wounds for me. She, apparently being more aggressive than she looks, decided to hit me in the head, knocking me unconscious and force feed it to me. Having taken offense to this, I opted to inconvenience her in a similar manner. After all, what better way to mess with a human than to mess with their sleep. As such, I retrieved a bucket of water from the nearby well, four hours into their sleep cycle and snuck up to their room. This is where I learned an interesting fact about Mavis. Not only were they perfectly awake and leaving their room, but the sight of me caused a massive pallor shift. From hair to skin she turn several shade redder. Some may not have made anything of this, but I was raised by my father. I know how to spot an elf from the feywild. Having learned of this, my ire forgotten I left to gaze at the star on the roof of the inn.
