Ottokath's Journal #26

General Summary

We retrieve a piece of silk from the orcs we bested. Apparently it mentioned a place to the east that may be of interest. This would be our next destination, as I doubt the others would pass up the adventure. We got paid quite handsomely, but the shop did not have anything that stood out particularly. So while the others were shopping at Meelum's Magical Wares, Hamood and I headed to the armourer. Although I disliked the smell within and the spirits felt oppressed. I asked if he sold studded leather armour not affected by metal. As expected, he sold no such thing. I instead asked him to make it from the chunk of charcoal I once claimed from a treant. He warned me of its properties and send me to Meelum's. There they combined it with my old leather armour and created quite the artifact. I can feel the tree spirit in the armour itself now.   Tanz acquired a bag of his distasteful hobby. The longer I spend with him, the less I understand what he preaches. He speaks of freedom and salvation, but enacts oppression and damnation. I worry for him.   We headed east as expect, only the find an ominously sealed tomb. When we arrived we soon passed out, only to awaken within the earth. What followed was a gauntlet of hallways traps and puzzle. All in all, an enjoyable change of pace. Curiously, undine spirits clutter these halls, despite the ghost present here. Rather odd.   We eventually got to the final tomb. When we opened it, from the throne came a ghastly presence. I called upon aid to fight this foe. Surprisingly, unlike before, the creature I summoned where those I recognized as sprites, staunch enemies of evil. They tried to help, but fell quickly despite their number. When I called out once more, an assortment of beast answered. A direwolf, a wolf and three snakes appeared. The snake quickly moved to engage Tanz and Art, both of whom had been possessed by the present spirits. The wolves aided us when fighting the greater being.   The fight was hardfought, but eventually, we found ourselves winning. Then it fell back to the wall and water started filling the room. Misinterpreting what was happening, I saw too late the wave that would engulf me. Luckly for me, I had allies among the water. The undine I had been communing with since we entered showed me a gap among the water, allowing me to leap clear of the crushing wave. Rather than being knock unconscious, I was merely hurt instead. The greater thing had made a mistake getting clear of the wall. I called forth once more, swarming it in a pack of wolves. This fight was over.   Within the tomb we found an assortment of items I took little interest in.   The gaia of this place sung of ages and magic. It was quite hard to follow, actually, their voices disonant and quiet. But there was a nice calm to them. I'm glad I can hear them once more. Without their whisper, the world feels rather lonely.
