Hellborn

Hellborn are neither common nor uncommon in sight across all of Aracanus. From deep heritage rooted in the very foundations and trickled through generations, all the way up to first-generations borne of unconventional matings and deals with the demons of the underworld in modern day.   Hellborn, like Nymphs, are both revered and feared for their inherent abilities. Unlike Nymphs, they tend toward the feared end, with heavy prejudice toward their somewhat-evil appearance, with horns, tails, sharp fangs, and solid-colour eyes.
There are a variety of different hellborn ethnicities and powers, with each hellborn categorised into one of five fiendish bloodlines, or considered unaligned, if they do not display any traits pertaining to those.   These bloodlines are named after whichever entity granted the descendants their own powers for use as racial abilities. The Dragon's Breath, Fae Tongue, Cryptic Eye, Change Bringer, and Wall Keeper hellborn bloodlines all take power from an ancestor of some sort, giving them latent abilities unavailable to other races and their unaligned kin.   Dragon's Breath hellborn are descended from the draconic fiends once bound under the rule of the Damned, and have various abilities related to the dragon's breath weapon, such as fire, ice, and lightning.   Fae Tongue hellborn are the product of a crossing between Fae-touched and unaligned hellborn, giving them the ability of mental trickery and silver tongue.   Cryptic Eye hellborn come from the interference of a powerful shapeshifter, giving them chameleon-like abilities to change their colours, and illusion magic.   Change Bringer hellborn are another cross between the blessed and the unaligned hellborn, specifically those with a phoenix patron. Known for their strong moral compass and ability to command attention naturally, Change Bringer hellborn are known most famously for their work in activism. They are also gifted with a penchant for enchanting items.   The final bloodline is the Wall Keepers, descended from the Lynchpins of Caertium, and as such, they are far less common than their kin. Those of this bloodline gravitate more toward protection, and find themselves capable with wards and walls, with a natural ability to sense good or evil around them.
Of course, it is possible for a hellborn to be born not of a bloodline such as this, but of general demonic or fiendish influence. These hellborn are known as unaligned, and do not have any inherent abilities, but often are able to utilise magic with more force than other races such as humans, or elves. This leaves them feared, as young children often lose control of their magical abilities. They are also often resistant to the chill of winter and ice magics, as their fiendish ancestor is oftentimes from the chill of Death, or from Purgatory, and resistant to that themself. The hellborn will commonly inherit the ability to see in the dark for this same reason.
