Wild Elves

Written by Pookas Kreations

Wild Elves live close to nature and have forged links with animals in their territory, often wolves. Because of this, their mind is mostly in the Now with their companion. They don't put much stock in things that don't pertain to living in the present and don't look to the past or future.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Speak Elven, Sylvan, and Wildspeak with their companion, rarely anything else.

Culture and cultural heritage

Wild Elves are nomadic, they travel in family groups or tribes depending on if the area is dangerous. They are cousins to Astralus and all their descendants. These elves are a throwback of the Astralus. They can reproduce with other elves and most other humanoids.

Wild Elves are closest to their mother Aquatica. Each tribe has chosen a different animal to bond with. Because of their rejection of technology, they have been gifted with telepathy, a wild talent and a link to their bonded animal.

Shared customary codes and values

The Tribe is all, never betray its trust. Share your kill, have fun when possible, it takes a tribe to raise a child, etc.

Average technological level

Wild Elves are a nomadic primitive society, in the Iron Age Technology level. They are technophobic.

Common Dress code

There is none, whatever the terrain and temperature requires. It is the choice of the individual.

Art & Architecture

They live simply, so their art is natural, handmade and portable. They live in the trees so they have no need for houses as the trees provide all they need.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

  • Relationships: Lovemate, Lifemate, and Recognition.
  • Claiming of Offspring: This is important to some wild elves to help trace relationships so those too closely related don't mate too closely.
  • Animal-bond: When an animal or elf are born they are taken to meet and bond with each other.
  • Moonsong: At specific, times: month, year, or at special events, a Moonsong is held. This ceremony helps cement the tribes' relationship with each other, discuss important things, remember the past and at times divine the future. The shaman guides this with drumming, singing and imbibing his brew.
  • Cleanse the Taint: Cleanse the Taint wherever its found. This is commonly leftover wildmagic or corrupted areas left over from the Chaos Wars.

Coming of Age Rites

  • First Weapon: The making of your first weapon, be it dagger, sword, bow or spear.
  • First Kill: The first kill of a prey animal is an important rite for the elven young.

Funerary and Memorial customs

A Moonsong is performed for the dead. During this remembrance ceremony, the shaman mixes a drink that allows the friends and family to merge their minds and share memories of the dead. If the spirit is especially strong they can also join in. This allows them to step out of the Now and remember the past.

Common Taboos

Killing family or tribesmate, stealing from the same.

Common Myths and Legends

  • Firstfall: the Arrival on Aquatica.
  • Greenbond: When the wild elves discovered Aquatica was sentient and their subsequent bonding with her. The Alfa, first wild elf that descended from the World Tree ship that meditated in the forest, merged with her and met his first bondmate.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personality is more important.

Gender Ideals

This is fluid as they are often reincarnated into the opposite gender.

Courtship Ideals

These usually include presents, walks, meals, etc.

Relationship Ideals

Relationships are casual unless Recognized, relationships can last for days, months or years. They form casual relationships with partners of either sex, called Lovemates, this is not always sexual. It is also fairly common to have more than one lovemate at a time. Some elves choose partners, for life, called Lifemates. This is their closest equivalent to marriage besides Recognition, and their is still no bar on casual relationships as long as their respective partner doesn't object. While Lifemates usually share soul names, Lovemates usually do not. Offspring from either of these matings can result, but they aren't usually as strong physically or mentally. Recognition is for life it is a mating of the mind, soul, and body; most of the time a child does not come to those not recognized.

Major organizations

Tribe or coalition is the largest group they become.
