Pelagia Market Town

Written by Pookas Kreations

Starting out, Pelagia Market district was only used as a yearly trading “town”. Many Fringers came here to trade their excess for anything they needed or wanted. They also used this time to visit with friends, share stories, party, make various deals, find new partners, etc.

Many games/contests are held, such as shooting, axe/knife throwing, various crafts, etc. Specialists like dentists, leather workers, tailors, blacksmiths and others often set up here to take advantage of the multitude of visitors every year.

Over the years more and more booths were made permanent and the visits to the market town became more frequent. What started out as a yearly rendezvous increased to two, then three and now is open almost year round. It started out in a field, but now is enclosed to protect the visitors from the frequent carnivore attacks.

Demographics

This varies, because of all the races that have made it to the island in one way or another. Humans, saurians, elves, gnomes, dwarves, and others all could be found here at one time or another.

Government

There is no government per se, people have jobs, but this society is anarchist mostly. People run their own businesses, there might or might not be a sheriff, depending on the current Mayor of the time if there is one.

Defences

One side of the palisade protects the market place, with a ballista and catapult.

Industry & Trade

The fur, bone, ivory, and hide trade is booming, logging, ores, gems, food of all types.

Infrastructure

The market place has oard walks, stores, a saloon, tavern.

Assets

There are various small warehouses owned by the busineses.

History

The market place started small in a grass field with only tents, no buildings. Over the years it gradually improved.

Architecture

Most of the buildings are basic frontier wood structures. Eventually some of the more well-to-do merchants have been able to improve their buildings with stonework and bricks.

Geography

The location is in a large clearing in a densely forested area. The trees have been cut back to allow the inhabitants to see carnivores to allow them to defend themselves before danger arrived.
