Itasi
Written by Pookas Kreations
Itasi are ferrets with humanoids-like characteristics. They mostly live on Animus and are treated as Vermin, bandits, and criminals. They roam the land in gangs, bands or hordes; when all nearby food is gone they travel on.
Basic Information
Itasi have a basic humanoid form, with a tail, ferret-like face and clawed hands/feet.
The only differences between ethnicities of Itasi are really only their color, markings, where they like to live and preferred foods.
Itasi are a very prolific race. They are fertile with any other race that is even close to being compatible. Offspring are known to have been produced with most animalfolk, including Badgen and Lutra and most other humanoids. Lepi and Kangu are possible but haven't been discovered yet. They have a proclivity for large families and aren't monogamous in their relationships. Neither with male or female.
After the first few months, the offspring are left to fend for themselves. Until they come of age at around 6 years, they tend to form their own gangs, often spying on the adults to learn the skills they need.
Any land and rarely aquatic, they prefer to live underground, only leaving the tunnels to forage.
They are mostly carnivores, but at need, they will eat anything that they can find. Even the eating of the weaker members of their own. Itasi hunt in gangs or packs similar to velociraptors. Depending on the size variance, the strongest of the Itasi hit first, then pairs engage from either side until the prey is down.
During the warm months leading up to winter, they stock their larder caves (the coldest ones) with preserved meat, sometimes even kept animals and dried fruits and vegetables. To feed them when they can't find anything aboveground.
Additional Information
They have a mostly lawless society, except what the leader decides, what he/she says goes. Whoever beats the leader becomes the new one. Brawls, duels, and assassinations are the accepted way of advancing up the ranks.
Itasi have long ferret-like faces, small round ears, a small nose, and sharp teeth.

Civilization and Culture
The Itasi cares more for skills and accomplishments than beauty. Scars are badges of honor, you survived.
Except for the few months that females need to tend to their young, there is no difference between sexes. They fill the same roles as males and are expected to pull their weight in the gang regardless of sex.
There is no marriage in a ferret gang. Although, sometimes there are preferred mates, especially with the leader or shaman.
Strength, might makes right.
Itasi are currently in the Iron Age, but only because they have learned to emulate the work of others. Some have begun to think for themselves and began to expand their repertoire.
Whatever is the common tongue in the area. Usually common and Itasi their own language.
Whatever they can make, borrow or steal.
They are a Nomadic Barbarian culture.
Don't make something that you can take easier.
A gang of ferrets was hunting their territory when they came across a battlefield. There were many dead of various races. Because of the surplus of food, they decided to stay for the winter, dig new dens and gorge themselves. The people here had died in a wild magic storm, so the flesh was contaminated.
Gradually, the gang became smarter, more cunning and started exhibiting humanoid-like characteristics. They still like living in dens, but these became larger, more intricate and well-made. From observing villages and travelers, they began learning the nuances of society around them. They latched on to thieves and bandits as a group they would like to emulate.
Most others consider them vermin and thieves. They are ostracized by almost anyone that they meet, except others like themselves.
Itasi are often likened to roving hordes because wherever they go death and destruction follows in their wake.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
They usually have fur in shades of earth tones, mostly brown, red or black; with lighter markings underneath and around the eyes. White, gray and silver have been known to appear in snow-covered mountainous areas.
Their society is similar to the Mongols, Huns or Scythians. The one main difference is their choice of mount, dire boars or dire rats. These are riden mostly for the intimidation value (and horses hate them).
