GSD Addiction

This material was forced onto the Atlantean slaves to keep them tractable, so was very prevalent wherever they ruled. This addiction is caused by the use of too much GSD . Every slave ingests it in their food and drinks continually and they also each have an implanted device that activates at the need to reward or punish them with more or less GSD.

Causes

After Atlanteans first uplifted primitive societies and animals they realized that it was easier to keep their slaves tractable then to enforce their will with guards. So they created GSD for this purpose. Addiction was just a side effect of its use and after generations.

Symptoms

Mental symptoms include daydreaming, euphoria, walking in a daze when they are not told what to do. This condition makes them very tractable and suggestable.

Treatment

This condition is preferred by the Atlanteans, so they aren't treated.

Prognosis

In some cases, it extends life, but in others, it shortens it, depending on how much is used. There are a few cases that can only take the minimum amount or they will die.

Sequela

They noticed that those that they took away the GSD lost cognitive function and their minds quickly degenerated to their previous form before they were genetically altered.

Affected Groups

Any type of race, that lives near the resources the Atlantean requires. They enslaved many people. The humans seemed to be affected the most by GSD. It made them the most tractable. It worked best on medium-sized humanoids and less on animalistic humanoids or quadrupeds.

Prevention

The only way to not become addicted is to not be a slave in the first place.

Epidemiology

The addiction can be passed from parent to child, but also needs to be ingested in some way.

History

Atlantean scientists first created this in the labs of Hy-Altia. They were in search of a material (drug) that could control their new slave population. It was originally taken from an extract from certain seaweeds and ergon that grows on rye. These were magically combined and enhanced for use in this specific purpose.

Cultural Reception

This "drug" was never revealed it was just added to their food and drink, then later installed in an implant that dispensed the doses.
