Dachund

This is a very popular hunting dog. They were bred for scent, chase, flush badgers, and other burrowing animals in or out of their tunnels. Some have also been trained to hunt others such as rabbits, and other smaller animals.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dascunds have a long body and short legs, with paddle-shaped front paws that are well-suited for digging. They have a deep chest to fit their large heart and lungs, which extends their endurance. The dachshund has a long snout and short tail.

Biological Traits

Most are smooth-haired but they can be long-haired as well.

Ecology and Habitats

Dachshunds can live in any temperate habitat but prefer forested areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are carnivores, but can occasionally eat some fruits, nuts, and vegetables.

They are mostly one-person dogs, but if trained well can run in packs like hunting dogs.

Domestication

These dogs are very loyal, playful but can also be stubborn and ferocious. They don't like strangers, so will growl and bark at them. Energetic with a loud, deep howl, they can be mischievous as well and will need a large amount of attention every day.

They are muscular for their size, mainly because of their athletic nature of running and digging.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Dachshunds come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, most commonly red. Base colors can be red or cream, tan/black, chocolate/tan, blue/tan, or isabella/tan. Patterns like dapple, sable, brindle, and piebald can also occur on any of the base colors. These markings are usually placed over the eyes, ears, paws, and tail.
