Aquatic Elf Rite of Passage

Written by Pookas Kreations

This Rite of Passage is very important for the Aquatic Elves. Males and females have different ceremonies tailored to their needs. It is a time of celebration for family and friends. Feasting can be a close family or a communal event, where the Gods are invited to attend the celebration.

The child is given a new name at the high point of the ceremony, then the feasting and the party follows. The food served includes the favorite food of the celebrant as well as foods that the attendees like, and those meant to appease the Gods. Many of these feasts actually take place on the Holy Island of Tir fo Thuin, Aquarius, Capital of Oceania, or any nearby temple to Danu, Goddess of the Sea.

Bread and desserts are hard to source ingredients from under the water, if they are included in the feast many of the ingredients will have to come from the surface and have to be created there. Of course, they can be cooked in caves or special air rooms but will have to be eaten there as well.

Depending on how traditional or progressive the respective family is in their society on what and how foods are served. It could just have finger food (snacks) to enjoy, others have a feast, and some only set food out for the Gods.

The ceremony type depends on many factors as well, which deity they follow (if any), the ceremony type (puberty, coming of age, marriage, etc. If the society uses a first kill manhood ceremony, the boy must first fast, hunt down a dangerous predator or prey animal, then bring it back to the village shrine or temple. He must do all this all alone, to be then counted as a man. Sometimes women have a similar trial, but usually, theirs are more skill and endurance-based, they might have to fight off predators, or snare prey, but not usually kill a predator.

A sample feast is as follows:
  • roast beast of choice: fish, aquatic mammal, sea-fowl, etc.
  • aquatic plants--cooked or raw, salad, stir fry
  • soup of choice
  • desert of choice
  Jasyns feast
  • roast Cormorant and steamed Baracuda
  • wakame, kombu, arame salad;
  • sea urchin, turtle, and starfish soup
