Gems of the Burning Sea
Following the five sanctioned expeditions into the deadly landscape, there has been much speculation surrounding the glass caps spotted on the dunes near the heart of the Burning Sea.
Some believe that it is the focusing of the light bouncing off of the heat waves, others believe that is a creature made of fire or an incarnate of the Collapse, and a more likely theory involving the lightning generated amongst the swirling sandstorms.
Historical Basis
In the year 355 A.C., a couple of the then most established settlements turned their eyes further upon that vast expanse in search of Old World artifacts. Rimmingstown and its sister city, Tyll, assembled a team to track down a location derived from a fragmented map. The party set out on the 10th month, towards the end of the Hot season, but were never heard from again. The 2nd party set out, serving mainly as a search and rescue operation, and was turned back after finding the 1st party frozen mid-stride with deep lacerations.
The third party were the ones that eventually made it deep enough into the Burning Sea to find these caps the following year. They had hoped that it was a ruin poking up from under a dune, but upon reaching it, found it to be a relatively thick casing of glass.
In Art
Some of the regional elite started to attempt to acquire authentic, complete dune caps to put atop of their abodes.
There are works portraying the cold season's sandstorms mixed with glass as a deceivingly serene marvel.
