Thornhoppers

Large armoured insects which cling to Thornspires and can leap great distances.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Protected by a chitinous exoskeleton which bears resemblance to thornspire colourations and shapes. Looks can vary from region to region. Six limbs, with longer back legs specialized for leaping.

Genetics and Reproduction

A thornhopper will emit certain pheromones indicating it is ready to breed. Eggs are usually laid on the underside of thornspire fronds in batches ranging from 20-50.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Herbivorous. Feeds on nectar, sap, and fruit.

Domesticated by Nagas for transportation and food.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Eggs & meat can be consumed, and are known for a sweet, savoury flavour. Shells and sheddings are re-purposed as amour, weapons, and tools. Can be "milked" for a sugary liquid, which is usually fermented and refined into alcohol. Nagas have perfected this technique in the form of a strong liqueur known as Dewdrop.
