Order. Order is the goal and the ideal which every good Erutian seeks to uphold and achieve. Since the time they were born, every citizen has been taught the benefits and importance of order. And for good reason; was it not this ideal of order that pulled Erus itself out of the inferno that was the great civil war? Likewise, order will now benefit everyone who keeps it. By seeking your place in the order that is Erutian society, one can find joy, honor, and personal fulfillment. And, of course, what is order without oversight to make sure there is no... disruption?

Structure

While in name a republic, Erus functions closer to an oligarchy, as no one without strong ties to those in power already will ever be elected. On a national level, there are two branches of government: the legislative Community and the executive Security Council. The Community is made up of 25 "elected" officials five from each state. A Community representative is called a Speaker. The Security Council is comprised of five members who must unanimously approve every law. It also creates and oversees government organizations. A council member is called a Protector.

History

The United Federation of Erus rose from the ashes of a revolution against a decadent tyrant who failed to care for his country economically. Once the irresponsible monarch was overthrown though, the leader of the revolution was assassinated before he could organize a new government, leaving his high ranking subordinates to fight in the power vacuum. This resulted in decades of civil war where the leaders would regularly change; however, the regular people always lost due to the selfish and power-hungry policies instituted by the faction leaders. After 25 years of this constant fighting and the political hot potato routine, a young idealist named Shen Young arose from the citizenry preaching selflessness, collectivism, and the need for a unified purpose for everyone in Erus. Quickly gaining influence, Shen gathered a militia around him and, with the help of a defecting tactician from one of the leading factions, was able to crush the other factions. He then established the UFE on the foundation of his teachings with the goal of establishing civil order to prevent political upheaval of that caliber ever again.

Demography and Population

The population is mostly concentrated in and around the twelve major cities that are settled on the banks of the seven lakes. The concentration of people lessens to the southwest of the country in the plains. The forested northeastern area between the lakes and the mountains is more populous in comparison, but does not normally reach the level of the lakes. However, there has been some rise in the population there as families leave the mountain areas due to the war. The mountain areas hold tourist cities which featured ski resorts, white water rafting, hang gliding, and other outdoor activities. However, these cities have turned more into military outposts for the war.

The Seven Lakes region at the tail end of the Lariat Mountain Range. This is the Erutian ancestral lands, although they seek to expand to the other side of the mountains in to Eleutherios.

Military

In brief, the Erutian military is divided into three main branches: army and air force. The army is composed of three sub-branches: infantry, artillery, and water borne. Erutian naval forces are overseen by the army, as the country is landlocked. However, its system of lakes and rivers necessitates some waterborne security measures in the form of patrol boats, gun boats, and missile boats. The air force is comprised of four main branches: reconnaissance, fighters, bombers, and paratroopers.

Technological Level

Erus has a modern day technological level, with the exception of space travel. Rather its wireless devices are managed by towers across the nation. Erus has the fastest computing devices in the world and the greatest storage hardware for said devices. The main advantage these technologies have given Erus in war is the use of drones.

Religion

The nation is officially atheistic. All religions are persecuted, as they would inevitably introduce an ideal other than civil order.

While it previously sustained itself off of fish, metal, and corn exports, Erus has recently experienced a technological boom which has allowed it to thrive due to the demand for its quality electronic goods.

Trade & Transport

Internal: Between the major lake cities, trade is conducted by ship, as a larger amount of cargo can be transported this way than by truck. However, trade between the lake cities and destinations in the plains or mountains is done via trucks. Private transportation between cities is done typically via automobiles as it is faster than boat with the road system which spans the country. Within the cities though, it is common practice to take the public train system.

Education

The usual level of education is college level. Most of the population is sorted into different vocational schools; liberal art schools are only available for scientists and politicians.

The name of the currency is Erutian flame. However, it is exchanged digitally through scan-able codes displayed on watches or phones.

Legislative Body

The Community is the name of the federal legislative body. It consists of five representatives from each state, totaling 25 members. A member of the Community is called a Speaker. While technically elected, the system has been corrupted to the point where it is unlikely that someone will be elected that is not an incumbent, related to an incumbent, or close to an incumbent or a Protector. Elections take place every five years. Each state has a local legislative body called a Council. Councilmen are appointed by the state executive, called a Shepherd, and approved by the Speakers of the same district. They hold the position for 15 years.

Judicial Body

The courts are preside over by the state's Shepherd, often by proxy through his judicial cabinet. Civil disputes are lodged with the Shepherd's office and are assigned a court date. Criminal offenses, if deemed acceptable for the public to hear, will be reported to the office by local law Enforcers. If they are not acceptable, the criminal is privately examined by a federal agent and usually promptly executed in secret. At the court, a member of the cabinet will preside and decide the sentence. If appealed and approved for review, the case will proceed to the Shepherd. In rare cases, the case will be appealed again and brought to the Security Council.
