The Dragon of Redfire Mountain

Nestled within the Serpentine Mountains that wind their way along the border between Lar Aslaki and Oristhane is a volcano long-ago labelled Redfire Mountain. Redfire Mountain has lingered dormant for centuries, but it hasn't failed to maintain a presence in local mythos.   According to legend, Redfire Mountain's interior is the grave of one of Aotra's mightiest greater dragons. For millennia, every local knew tales of sightings of an enormous red dragon circling over the mountain, crawling into a cliffside cave, or bathing in flowing lava as ash and smoke swirled around it. The dragon of Redfire Mountain was, strictly speaking, a myth and nothing else, but in the eyes of those living near the mountain, it was entirely real. But in the last few centuries, the sightings slowed to a trickle, and then they stopped altogether around 580 YC. At that point, the dragon had haunted the slopes of Redfire Mountain for some two thousand years at least, plenty long enough for it to have reached the natural end of its lifespan.   But the presumable death of the dragon of Redfire Mountain raised up another topic of local discussion: its lair, and perhaps more directly, its horde. A greater dragon such as this one must have accumulated a veritable treasure trove over its lifespan. But the precise location of its lair is yet unknown. Many groups of treasure-hunter hopefuls have tried and failed to seek it out; the mountain is treacherous, and its unstable caves, volcanic heat, and twisting caverns have claimed more than a few lives over the past century and a half. Nevertheless, the hunt for the horde hidden somewhere within Redfire Mountain continues, for there are still plenty of people who deem the potential riches therein worth braving mountain's many dangers.
