The Grand Chapel
Particles suspended in the air shine a kaleidoscope of colors as they pass through the colored light cast by the stained glass window that remains. Despite the breeze blowing through the multiple empty windows and cracks in the roof, the inside feels calm and still, almost unnaturally so. The serenity seems to fill the bones here, and it's no wonder the locals come here to relax.
Purpose / Function
People living nearby use it as a place to rest and meditate because of the soothing effect it appears to have on people. However, this effect is simply a holdover of the angelic magic that warded the chapel over a millennia ago. This was one of the main hubs for communication throughout the southern reaches of the land humans inhabited, on the continent now called Luteus. As all buildings that the angels used constantly had done, wards to keep humans from feeling strong emotion were in place, to make things easier for the angels.
Alterations
Time has not been kind to the Chapel. Wear is obvious, from the stonework to the magical wards, and no repairs have been successful, due to the nature of the wards.
Architecture
When it was constructed, the chapel was built from smooth, perfectly shaped stone bricks, in a classic, simplistic style. Angels were never ones for great fanfare. The main hall is spacious, and many smaller rooms once lined the walls. Now, the stones sit cracked and worn, and many are missing altogether. The stained glass art, the main decoration of the chapel, sits in various stages of disrepair in different windowsills.
History
Long ago used as a rest stop for messengers and a logistical checkpoint during the time of angelic rule it performed its role admirably until the angels disappeared. Afterwards, it sat dormant for many, many years, as any humans who tried approaching left calmly, usually not even realizing they had meant to do anything with the Chapel. Humanity forgot about the original purpose with time, and by the first signs of crumbling stones and cracking wards, angels had passed into legend. Once the wards had deteriorated enough to allow humans entrance, the soothing effect of the building was brought to light, and the nearby people have used it as such ever since.
