Ethelindir, or "The Eastern Ruins" (Ethel-in-deer)

At the very edge of Anruien's official borders, in the midst of the dense Eastern Forest, if one wanders far enough they will come upon a burned, desecrated wasteland. Once upon a time, it was a marvelous city with a generous population. The buildings rose into the sky and the magic under the earth beneath fed its prosperous magical community. There were mages, kings, and civilization here was flourishing.   One day, a young mage was born to a small family on a farm just outside the borders of what is now this ruined city. A young child, called Lilith, grew to be a mage of immense power and wielded it with rage. The mages of the city attempted to subdue her, but she escaped at a young age and then returned for her revenge on the land that had tried to hem her in. She destroyed her homeland in a blaze of magical fire and decimated the capital city leaving behind nothing but burned stone and desecrated ground.   It is said that the wasteland of Ethelindir is haunted by spectres of the former capital's murdered citizens. The genocide of this small nation was so intense that no one and nothing here grows any longer. It is avoided at all costs by the people of Anruien. Those who have gone in have reported voices, strange events, and not all have made it through the ruins alive. It is said that those who pass away inside the borders of the old capital's ruins become trapped in the ground and their spirits are corrupted into spectres or walking creatures of death.   All Anruien parents tell their children the horror stories of this place and traveling through this area is strictly forbidden. Those who spend too much time inside the borders of the Ruins may find their bodies altered, their spirits trapped, or something taken from them when they attempt to leave the region.
