Westfortan Hussars

Westfortan Hussars are an elite light cavalry unit serving in the free city of Westfort. They were created in order to quickly respond to the attacks of the hostile Steppe Rider tribes. like Kiryk.

Equipment

The most important piece of equipment used by the Hussars is the Map Stone. Every squadron has at least one of them and uses it to navigate the steppe.

Structure

Westfortan Hussars are divided into 10 squadrons of 80 soldiers each. Squadrons always operate independently from each other and report directly to the headquarters in Westfort.

Upkeep

The Hussars are maintained by Westfort. The city provides them weapons, uniforms, horses, food, place to sleep and pay. Throughout the years the city council brought the topic of these expenses a few times. They were saying that the city spends to much on the Hussars. The most common idea was too stop supplying them with food or a place to sleep. However, every time such ideas fell because the governor was vetoing it.

Recruitment

Every citizen of Westfort can join the Hussars. New recruits go through a training program created by the unit's founder. The program is based on the Trusan cavalry training program.

History

First hussar squadron was formed in 1290 Church by Marco Finetti, a Trusan cavalry officer. His unit was made up of volunteers who had enough of Steppe Riders attacking their homes. After a few successive skirmishes Marco Finetti was approached by the city council and the governor with a proposition of making his unit professional. He agreed. Since then the Westfortan Hussars protect the city and patrol the steppe.
