Remunan

Remunans are the main culture group living in the Remunan Kingdom.

Naming Traditions

Most Remunans have three names. The first name is the personal name given by the person's parents. It is used in everyday situations.

The second name is usually a family name. In some cases it can also refer to the person's heritage. One of the group which uses such names are foreigners.

The third name can have multiple purposes. It can be a nickname or an augmentation of the first or second name. As an augmentation it is used to identify a specific person or branch in the family.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

All Remunans speak the same language, but due to the size of the territory they live in there is a lot of local dialects. The core language comes from the city Remun, the culture's legendary birthplace. The Remun dialect is still the closest to the original language.

Common Dress code

Most Remunans wear simple woolen or linen tunics. In most cases male ones end just above the knee and the female ones go all the way to the feet. All tunics are fastened with a leather belt placed around the hips.

The nobility wears more decorative tunics with symbols of their families and any offices they hold. During social events and ceremonies nobles wear togas which are draped over the shoulders and around the body. Togas are worn over a tunic. Most togas are white. The only people allowed to wear togas in different colours are the Tetrarchs Their togas are purple, which is the royal colour.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

When a child is born it recieves an amulet known as Bulla which the child wore on its neck as locket. The amulet's role was to protect the child from evil. Both boys and girls receive a Bulla.

Coming of Age Rites

Remunans are considered adults at the age of 20. The ceremony is private with only the parents and sibilings, if there are any, taking part in it. The child takes off the Bulla and it is melted in the fireplace or a hearth while the whole family recites a prayer to Lady Susanne.

Funerary and Memorial Customs

Remunan follow the Susannite funeral rites, which require to burn the body. What is done with the ashes differs between social groups. Common people put them in catacombs located underneath the cities and village churches. Noble families build mausolea on the outskirts of cities or near their houses and put the urns with ashes there.
