Chant of Night

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

They have no unique language, although to help hide themselves they use a shifted alphabet when writing messages to each other. There's no formal sacred text for this Chant.

Shared customary codes and values

Followers of this Chant all begin as members of one of the other five Chants. Somewhere along the line they became disaffected by the teachings of the Sky Lords and searched for an alternative. While some of these people never found what they were looking for, others stumbled upon Imbria and the truth behind the creation of their world.

Common Dress code

Followers of this Chant can identify each other by small moon shaped decorations in their clothing. These decorations are typically subtle so as to help them avoid detection.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Imbria's words and teachings are passed on largely via oral tradition. There is a cavern in the Talmalee Mountain Range in Shanshiire that has crude writing on the walls with instructions on how to find and contact Imbria and those who follow her. Kal Berash is unaware of this cavern's existence as Imbria herself protects it.

Funerary and Memorial customs

They follow the funerary customs of the countries they live in largely to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to themselves, but when possible they insist that their rituals be held at night when the moon is full. There are some minor regional variations.   Tevanites will insist on carrying a sprig of lavender onto their funeral pyre with them. Dovalian devotees are buried with a white stone in their mouth. What type of stone varies depending on what they can afford. Ideally it would be an opal or moonstone but a plain white river stone will do. The Jiinalese tie their burial shrouds with white cord. Zalites paint their faces white. The Kasheran people cover themselves in white cloth. If they can, they'll adorn themselves with moon iconography.

Common Taboos

They shun all worship of the five Sky Lords.

Common Myths and Legends

This religious sect venerates the moon goddess Imbria. They see her as vastly superior to the Sky Lords. To a lesser degree they venerate Shildrian but only in a secondary role, acknowledging his role alongside Imbria in the creation of An'katerr.
