History

Ever since humans have been acquiring possessions there have been those who have wanted what others have. This is no great secret. Gangs of thieves have come and gone over An'katerr's long history. The five countries all have different views on law and order but the safeguarding of personal property is one of the things that they universally agree on with the punishments for taking things that don't belong to you being roughly similar. This rarely deters those determined, desperate souls who either feel they need to resort to such means or simply feel they're justified in doing so.   Large scale banditry was unheard of until the establishment of the organization that came to be known as the Shadowhawk Bandits. Multiple attempts have been made to eliminate them, but their choice of hideout in the Shadaran Mountains has made that a near impossible task.   The establishment of that group led to other groups forming, though most were not anywhere near as successful. The rise of so many self-styles bandit groups led to the five countries imposing several harsh laws regarding banditry. Theft was one thing, banditry was something else entirely.   There are things that set bandit crews apart from a band of thieves.
  • Bandits are highly organized with a distinct leadership hierarchy
  • Bandits perform large scale raids
  • They often take higher value items and have the resources to fence them
  • They have well established and guarded hideouts
  • Bandits aren't opposed to taking captives from raids and often have slaves
  • In more established crews, some of the bandits have been born into the life
  • They'll raid into other countries as they have no respect for national borders
The most successful bandit crews to date are as follows: Telvan's Shadowhawk Bandits are the most famous crew currently active. The Blood Wolves in Doval aren't as widely known as their counterparts. Their success lies in their smaller numbers and stealth. Jiinal has the Sea Dragons, which are more like Pirates than Bandits, but they will raid coastal towns. Shanshiire's Sand Walkers aren't as notorious as the Shadowhawk Bandits, but are considered to be the most violent of the active crews. Zalityu's Shadow Vipers are believed to have their base around Broken Tree Lake, but this has yet to be confirmed.   These crews are still in operation and are considered to be highly dangerous. Any and all members caught are executed with extreme prejudice.
